Hey all,

I have just bought a used Sigma 15-30mm F/3.5-4.5 EX(This One) on Ebay.

Got it for £123 - I have seen them go in auction for £139 and at "Buy it now" for £189, so I think I got it for a good price!

My question is around the AF motor. it is REALLY noisy, at least compared to my Tammy 28-300 and my Canon 50mm. I read loads of good reviews about this lens with quite a few people complaining about noisy AF, though I was quite taken aback by it in the flesh!
AF is very quick, if only minor adjustments are needed but it makes quite a loud, high pitched squeal. If the motor has to sweep from one end of the focus to the other then it is a prolonged load squeal!

Manual focus is smooth and well damped, so it is purely motor noise.

Should I be worried?
The seller says it was serviced by Sigma this year. Surely if this was anything to worry about, it would have been looked at?

This is my first Sigma EX lens, so I have nothing of the same brand to compare it to. Advice gratefully recieved on this one...

Thanks,
AL.

Nobody want to offer an opinion or have any experiences with noisy Sigma AF's?

I have sigma 105mm macro and 30mm f1.4

The 30mm is my fav lens so far. But they are not very quiet regarding AF. The 30mm as a strange feeling in the focus ring, like if it needs oiling.

But besides that both are as sharp as my nikkor 50mm f1.8

I have literally only taken 8 quick test shots with it, though apart from the noise, it seems like a great lens. Pictures seem really sharp (Tests shot indoors with Hot Shoe flash at F5)

I have several Sigmas, and I like them all...the HSM ones are quick and quiet, the non HSM ones are not.

I have a 24-70 2.8 which is not only slow but noisy. But the image quality is superb, and at the end of the day, that's what matters.
