I had to quit voting. Too many entries relying on a title to make the connection IMO. So, rather than tick too many people off with a comment to that effect I'll just leave it alone and let the votes I've made fall off for being under the 20% quota.

Apologies in advance if I've raised any blood pressure levels in the last 30 minutes! :-D

I think this is a very general field to post, without looking to cliche, everyone has a personal opinion of what hell is, trying to convey that is very hard

Well, it's better than mine! I'm really surprised that his isn't doing better than my SP did. And I'm not really sure why, since I only have the one comment. This may turn out to be my least commented on photo.

So you quit even before you got 16 votes into the challenge? I am sure if you had stuck with it you would of found a few good'uns.

I just stopped my voting too. I don't know if I'm just not in a good mood, maybe its the 6" of snow I just shoveled, or what, but something isn't clicking for me with these. I'll do a retake on all my votes again later to make sure I'm not being overly critical...

You're probably right. I only voted on 10, and commented on 8. FWIW, the votes ranged from 3-7 with a bell curve. Perhaps I'll revisit them tomorrow...

Just finished voting. I now understand the low scores.

Oh and Simmsthanks for pointing out my spelling mistake in my title, but there's nothing I can do about that now....

I was a bit disappointed that that was all you said in the comment. On the other hand I'm glad you pointed it out because now it looks stupid but I might have a chance to get it corrected.

Left you a far more comprehensive comment now.. not sure if you will like it, but it spells out what I like/dont like.

Thank you for that. I understand what you're saying. Some people took the challenge literally, others more figuratively.
I hope I'm using the right words now, because this is me thinking in dutch and trying to get it across in english....

Why would they feel sorry for you? Sorry, but people seem to complain if they don't recieve comments, then complain that they get bad ones. Granted, some of my negative comments can be a bit blunt and as a result, unhelpful, but generally if someone complains to me they dont like my short blunt comment, I will make it a long blunt comment.. You have to understand commentors dont have time to essay every shot.. But I will always take time to go back and comment a bit more if someone thinks my comment is too short or not helpful.

You must be new! Those of us that have been around awhile have a thicker skin... to me bad comments are better than no comments : )

hell is disappointing all around. i do wish i understood better how people are voting. my photo may not be very exciting and i can understand why, by some people's perception (if they are looking for a literal meaning), it may not meet the challenge, but it isn't a genuinely 'bad' photo.

out of 2 comments, only one of them is bad. there should be more bad ones since it is obvious that it is getting some 3s and maybe lower. the bad comment was mostly constructive (though i had no control over the changes suggested). i entered 'hell' at the last moment with a photo i hadn't really intended for the challenge. i had planned to enter 'heaven' but those photos didn't quite turn out the way i'd hoped and were below even my standards (lol).

i'm very new at photography. i'm still trying to learn basic things. good comments help with my confidence, but the bad comments help me learn and improve.

here, here!!! i second that motion. since everyone complains about not getting enough comments (me too, in a second :)) i went through and commented on all the heaven AND hell pictures. i didn't like all of them... obviously... so some of my comments are a little harshly honest. but it's better than getting no feedback, erm... as opposed to MY entry...

really disappointed with only two comments, and both of them short "nice idea" comments... i thought i was pretty clever with my picture. the last time i got this few comments was when i BOMBED and this picture was at 6.0 for a while before it started dropping. what gives? so yeah, to those of us who've complained about not getting enough comments, why not try leaving some and see if the trend takes off?

and there you have it.

if it's a good shot but it doesn't meet the challenge, don't enter it.
just put it in your portfolio and ask for comments if you want them. I don't vote on photo's that don't meet the challenge. I don't give it a 1, I just skip the shot.

you could be right. but you took my quote out of context. i said it may not meet it in some people's perception. my good comment thought it did. when i vote, i try to interpret the photo in another way if i don't 'get it' and see what the photographer saw even if it's not my idea of what the challenge is.
