I read this thread and it got me thinking a bit...

The issue of photo editing is a big discussion in photography. I teach high school photography and I'd like to have a good starting point for this discussion. I heard once about a convention of newspaper and magazine editors where a woman showed a picture with a small boy that had been cloned out of the frame. Most newspaper editors said it was unacceptable, while some magazine editors would allow it.

Not to start the discussion here in this thread--I am more interested in this: has anyone come across any published articles on this subject? I'd like to make it a reading/discussion/possible essay assignment in the near future, and I'd like a good starting point.

There are a few articals on this floating around. I remember the Time Cover shot of OJ Simpson and the complaint that it was made darker to make him appear more guilty.

Linky

There wer also some pictures from Iraq that were doctored to look better/worse. I can't search for them here (at work) incase there are some non-work-safe images.

Thanks!

Turns out, I just needed the right search words--I did ethics and digital photography in google and got THIS.

Any other good articles?

Searching on propaganda-related doctoring of images might also be an interesting channel for your class to explore.
