I have a large number of customers to whom I wish to send regular email updates (software updates, newsletters etc.) - This isn't spam, these are customers who I need to keep updated.
I've looked at Google Groups, and Yahoo Groups already, but they are a bit glitchy. Plus, Yahoo Groups plasters adverts all over the outbound emails. I also looked at MailMan, but I don't think I'll be able to get that installed on my host as it requires shell access.
I'm looking for something which will allow me to maintain the email list (adding new users, managing bouncebacks, handle unsubscribe requests) as well as easily let me email the group with RTF/HTML/Plaintext emails with attachments. Preferably a web based solution.
Any suggestions? |

| Constant Contact is such a company. They're not free, but I think this is in the vein of what you want. |

I would also recommend Constant Contact.
I used them when I had my business. |

There are many good scripts out there you can run on your own web host BUT before you spend the time setting one up, contact your host and ask them if they throttle e-mail. More and more web hosts nowdays limit the amount of outbound mail ina given time frame (ie 100 e-mails per hour etc) to prevent people from creating accounts just to spam. |

Good point. I imagine if you talk to them and explain that you have X number of customers and you need your limits raised, I'm sure they'd work with you. Spammers probably wouldn't go talking to the administrators in such a fashion. |

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.
I looked at mailing list components for Joomla today, as I quite like that CMS. However, I'm trying to avoid getting bogged down in technical issues, which is what makes something like 'Constant Contact' an attractive option.
eta: Where I hit my original problem was that I was sending out emails using gmail and batching the addresses in lists of 500. The trouble is that gmail blocks your account for 24 hours if it sees too many out-bound emails and bouncebacks :(
