My wife came up with the idea of giving digital photo frames as gifts -
loaded with family pics and other - I'm completely on-board with this - but i have no idea how crummy or how great these are ...
anyone have any thoughts on brands - I don't want to give a piece of junk as a gift.
Thanks in advance.

I'm getting one for Christmas (I spec'd it out for my wife) ... it's a Philips model with 720x480 resolution (3:2 aspect like our camera sensors) but it's only 6.5" diagonal. The problem with any of the under-$100 models out there is they tend to be lower resolution (fewer pixels) ... 800x600 is about the best you can get under $200, but I don't want 4:3 ratio. Here is the one I'm getting at Amazon.

Just an FYI, I bought 3 Coby 7" photoframes from eCost for $59 each, but all 3 had this letter "E" inkstamped on the inside glass - shows up bad. I'm waiting to hear from customer service if they are all f'd up like that.

If not for that, they are a bargain.

I gave my two brothers and one sister a digital photo frame for their wedding anniversaries this year. I sell the Rock and Olin brand in my shop and own an Rock. They have all been happy with theirs and I am with mine. I have mine in my shop with all my photos loaded onto it so customers can look at it if they need to wait.

One word of warning, you get what you pay for. Some the the cheap and nasty ones have terrible screen resolution, very grainy.

I received the frames today. They look pretty nice but have yet to use them.
BTW: Since then the price has increased to $129!!!
So that's 90$ or so more for 3!

Bought a low end model for my mother in law last year. Low resolution and a widescreen format. It was ok, but finding and cropping photos to fit the narrow format was a pain. I saw some super cheapies at wal-art last night for about $42 or so. 320x240 pixels. That's pretty low end!

The ones that can do 800x600 seem mostly decent and I may pick up one of those sometime in the near future for myself.

I can't wait until Xmas to get to play with mine. I am a member of the Philips friends and family program so I think I can still get them at $99. If you end up liking them enough and want your own, let me know and I may be able to help out.
