C...A...T...S!

Go Bearcats! Northwest Missouri State University advances to the NCAA DII National Championships for the third consecutive year!

Thanks to MattO for letting me borrow his sweet lens. Matt, the lens was spot on and performed great! Thanks so much.

Now on to Alabama next weekend!

More pictures to come...I can't resize on my folks' computer and don't have room to upload huge files to my portfolio.

As a student at Grand Valley, I have to say congratulations! It's really sad to see our team lose, but also good, I think. 40 games undefeated is too much, and it really hurts a lot of the student support too, because no one wants to go to a game during regular season that is basically guaranteed to be a 30+ point blowout.

Xavier Omon is untouchable it seems....we all sat in silence quite a few times during the game and just thought "what just happened?" haha

I'm guessing it was the 120-300mm f/2.8, though possibly his 70-200mm f/2.8

Yeah Drew stopped by and borrowed the 120-300 F2.8 Sigma, monopod and raincoat.

Glad it worked out and congrats on the win. Will you be going to the championship game? If so do you need the lens again? Shoot me a PM or call me tomorrow, or stop by the shop and we can talk.

I rented a 70-200 2.8L and stuck it on my 35mm, but primarily used Matt's 120-300 2.8 on my 350D. It was a trip busting out the old 35mm Rebel...I kept glancing at the film door to check the shot preview or histogram! I guess I will have to develop the film this week...I can hardly believe I used to shoot everything relying on the in camera meter...ah simpler times!

Grand Valley played well and I was quite worried throughout the first half. I was really nervous and my only connection is that my brother plays there...I went to Mizzou (the BCS issue is for another thread)! NWMSU made plays when it counted last night and came up with two quick scores from the interception and the long run by Omon. The Lakers and their coaching staff were very cordial at the end and after the game. Coach Martin even approached NWMSU's defensive huddle during a time-out on the last drive to inform the team that the Lakers were going to run the ball to run out the clock and get out of the cold.

I think Grand Valley knew how much a win against them would mean to NW, and they were up to the challenge. For those that don't follow D-II, Grand Valley and NWMSU met the past two years in the National Championship game; the Lakers defeating the Bearcats by four points the first year, and three the second. The way the regions rotate in the playoff bracket, the only way these two teams could meet this year was in the semifinals. It was a very exciting game and I was glad to be on the field snapping away!

Matt, I am definitely going to the Championship game in Alabama, but do not know if I will be able to obtain a media pass. I should find that out tomorrow morning. I was going to rent a 300mm 2.8L from Schiller's, picking it up after 3:30 on Friday...but my folks want to leave St. Louis earlier in the day to get down there and take part in the pre-game festivities (my mom is a little crazy about football and has to be first in line to buy a "Champioship Series" t-shirt that they sell at each playoff game). So I think I will have to cancel my reservation for the 300 2.8L. I will send you a PM when I find out if I will have field access for the Championship and perhaps I could rent some gear from you.

Now to make the drive back to STL...3.5 hours on, hopefully not too slick roads.

I was expecting this post...or at least someone would say they peeked in to see if you went missing or something. Sorry for confusing you with the Bearcats' throwback chant; similar to my alma matter's "M-I-Z...Z-O-U" chant ("F-K-U" is usually inserted when the Jayhawks come to town)!

Maybe I should have titled it B-E-A-R...C-A-T-S!

Then I would have thought Bear got a few cats, which would probably not go over well with Karma...

Matt,

I just sent a PM, but will be away from the computer for a while. Give me a call if we need to talk soon, or send a PM and I can check email in about an hour or so.

Thanks,
Drew

Yep, it was quite a disapointing game. VSU did a great job shutting down NWMSU's star running back, Xavier Omon (4 years of 1500+ rushing yards, the only college football player to achieve this no matter the division...not to mention he still received his diploma!). The Bearcats are the first team to lose three consecutive National Championship games, in D-II, maybe in all divisions. It was a tough loss for the Bearcats. I wish them luck in future seasons, I don't know that I will be making too many 6+ hour trips to Maryville now that my brother has graduated. We spent 5 great seasons watching my brother play for the 'cats, we are proud of him for sticking it out, and don't regret a minute spent at the games or in the car driving to and from. I wish his career could have ended on a better note, but that is the way it goes I guess...somebody has to lose.

I am dumping my cards now...close to a thousand shots of pregame, game, and graduation ceremony. I will pick through them and post some later.
