I got a Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 for $69 dollars on amazon for a new walk around lens for my sony, I am excited. Hopefully it will be better than the nasty kit lens... I couldn't find any reviews for it but hey if I don't like it i can just send it back right?
:-D
ps. amazon has some CRAZY discounting going on on lenses right now...brings me joy
edit: and to think i promised myself NO MORE LENSES until i get a canon in a couple years....haha yah right

I have to agree! But then again ... have you seen her portraiture work?!? Claire proves that it's the photographer's skill that matters most and not the camera/lens.

I completely agree. It's not about the equipment. It's about the photographer. |

I had a Sigma 28-70 2.8-4 for Canon, it wasn't a bad lens at all. Was quite sharp excepts for if you bumped all the way up to the wide end. Will definitely serve it's purpose as a walk-around.

the old addage holds true. don't get a bad taste for sigma in general though - they make some pretty high quality optics.

When it comes to auto focus zoom lenses you mostly get what you pay for.
If you want good quality glass for cheap then your best bet is to look for some second hand Minolta primes. I know with Nikon you can use old manual focus glass on a new digital SLR, not sure about Sony/Konica-Minolta. |

anything not bearing the EX badge for Sigma is just trash, if you want' some high quality stuff, get those Zeiss lenses for Sony. |

you also might still consider - dropping the sony in a river - and getting one of those real DSLRs ;}

I have a Sigma manual focus 15mm f2.8 fisheye that is about equal to the Nikkor 16mm 2.8 in my bag. I use both, and like them about equally. I do have an older Sigma 400mm f 5.6 that has a lot of chromatic abberation, but it was old, used and only $75 on eBay. I do have some keepers that I have shot with it though. I guess you get what you pay for.

;) It's a Minolta with a Sony name on it. Canon and Nikon aren't the only real dSLR's out there.
