Hi! A couple of weeks ago I bought an inexpensive flash template ($98) and changed it up for myself. I'm pretty pleased with the result - it's a heck of a lot nicer than what I used to have.

I'd love comments, good & bad. I'm not sure how much I could change, being no master of flash, but I'll try to take on board any constructive criticism.

BTW, I have more portraits for the portrait bit, but not many permissions yet from the subjects, so that bit will grow soon if people are willing to sign something for me.

I bought one of them templates (not the same as yours though) and didnt realise that I needed a degree in Flash to be able to edit it.. annoying.

BTW, yours gets stuck on the loading screen, tried it in 2 browsers.

Wow - thank you Simms! It's working fine on my browser - I'm off to go try another computer. Anyone else have problems?

p.s. - It's true - it was tough getting through modifying the template. I have a little flash knowlege, and thought it would be straightforward, but it wasn't.

I tried too but had the same problem with the splash page not fully loading. I get an error massage even though the loading bar (the spinning thinger) says 100% loaded.

works fine on IE at my work.

Site is ok... i don't like how the menu obscures the bottom bit of the picture though, it makes it look cluttered. I'm also not a fan of the font.

One last thing: do they compress the hell out of your pictures? A lot of them look very soft when you click the thumbnail to get a bigger version.

Many thanks to all of you.
I'm using IE on both my computers & it seems to work, but I guess that it doesn't under other circumstances.

Any flash pro's out there want to make a little money & diagnose my problem for me? I guess I should start a new thread about that, unless someone sees this.

Tez - I compressed the images myself. Thanks for your comments - I'm going to re-compress & I guess sharpen afterwards... do you think that would work? I kind of like the font, so I'll put that on the back burner and look at it again in a week - I tend to be slow to change my mind on things like that.

I hate to post & run, but I wanted to say to any subsequent posters that I'm out for the next several hours, but will check back in tonight. Many thanks in advance for comments.

yes that would solve the issue. On my site (www.tezmercer.co.uk) i have to compress the files to 160kb, which as you can imagine is pretty far removed from an 11mb raw file... so i sharpen the hell out of them prior to save for web and that generally helps things along quite a bit after the compression has done it's thing.

And about the font: if you like it, use it. Screw what i think, it's your site :)

Yep - still stuck

Also, you need to change the page 'title' tag - as it says "main" right now. Make it something in your name - that helps with search engine results.

Beautiful site, Tez! I'll increase my sharpening & reload the pics. Many thanks, samchad, for trying. Apparently quite a few people have trouble loading it, so I'll do some reseach this weekend & try again on Monday.

Thanks all!

Seems like it's in an infinite loop.

(using Firefox)

Works fine in IE 6.

If you right click and hit play it will run. Basically the loader is probably not passing on the command to load the next scene (or frame). I can't be sure since I can't see the source, but that would be my guess.

Most likely you could fix it by adding a gotoAndPlay("frame")where frame is the frame # of the actual movie (not the loader) in the loader actionscript.

Assuming the loader is a different scene then the full movie - use _root.gotoAndPlay("scene name", frame#); (Scene name must be in quotes)

Or you could just try re-compiling it - flash does have many many little quirks.

Thanks bujanx. I'll try that.

The right click and play works for firefox.

It could be that the default is loop but in firefox that seems to mean loop the load process rather than play once loaded. You might be able to set the action once the load is complete.

The pictures are really nice! But yeah... I got stuck at the beginning and had to right-click and then play to get going.
