I just give everyone a 7 except Simms and Achoo; I've figured a way to give them negative scores. Bwaaa haaa haaaa.....

(Just kidding. Except about the negative scores for Simms and Achoo - I'm still working on how to do that...)

Okay, honestly this is how I vote.

If it looks like it was shot by:

a Canon or Nikon- 4

a Minolta- 4

a Pentax- 10

anything that doesn't fall into the above catagories- 4

In the future please note your camera type in the title- it would be a huge help to me.

I always vote honestly. If my photo is in the 7's , which never happens, then I might give other potentials a score lower than what I would give it, so if it's a 9, Id naturally give it an 8 or 7. Whenever someone gives a photo a 9 or 10, then its personal taste and I can't let that get in the way of me losing out the challenge. I got ten 1 's on my only ribbon winner!. That's just mischievous !

This reminds me of an old riddle. A man is walking down a path trying to get to town. He comes to a split to two paths and doesn't know which way to go. There are two men at the split. He knows one of them always tells the truth and the other always lies. He can ask one question of one of the men. He thinks a couple minutes and then after asking one of them a question and getting an answer he starts confidently walking down the correct path to town. What was the question?

I agree with DrAchoo, I currently have 21 comments on my freestudy telling me how great it is, it gets tiresome after a while :P

I'm glad to hear this as it will save me a lot of time. I don't have to comment on the good shots any more. :)

You ask one which way the other would say to go - and then go the opposite.

You got it! To keep from being a hijack let's say, this relates to the thread in that you get more honest votes the more people you get responses from.

I do, try give each a pic some time before I vote. Though I must say many amazing shots always seem to get a few 1 & 2's How I don't Know. Guess we all have different opinions.

I dunno.

I always vote drunk or hung over.

Sometime I wear my wife's glasses cuz her prescription is waaaaaaayy stronger than mine.

Maybe that explains it.

Or "If I were to ask you 'Does this road lead to the village?' what would you say?"

Yes. ...ok not really, I'm lying.

The real question is "Honestly, are people voting?"

Thanks for the answers, that gives me reason to stay here. I did vote 3 a few times out of disappointment, but I will stop doing that now because it is just waste of time.

Also, I would only comment on the once I think worth 7 or more, but the ask us to particularily give comments to bad ones. I don't understand that logic

The photogs who are scoring 7 or more probably don't need the constructive criticism as much as the photogs you are voting 3 or less. It's just a way to try to help those looking for help.

I would think this line of thinking would only make sense if someone is voting on technical issues alone perhaps. But then how does one know the intent of the photographer? Maybe the blur is on purpose, or the grain, or the way the shot is lit. If we follow the train of thought mentioned above does that mean people who consistently score well below the coveted 7, a 6...hell,even below a 5...does that mean they patently suck and need tons of "help"? Certainly not. There are MANY photogs here who score alarmingly low on a regular basis who are astoundingly talented. Not all top images are brilliant either, contrary to the plethora of praise that may be heaped upon them via commenting....hardly the case at all.

Don't feel bad about giving a low score, for whatever reason if you feel the shot deserves it. Who cares if it ends up a ribbon winner. I sure don't anymore, I vote the way I want to vote. And don't feel bad about high scores either. I hand out lots of 8 plus scores...a reward for an image well captured. My top twenty usually looks vastly different than the site top twenty.

We all have different tastes with wide and varied backgrounds in photography, the arts, what have you, and this is a good thing. Homogenization is dull.
