I'm jealous. That is supposed to be a pretty nice lens for the Olympus mount. I was about to purchase the 70-200 2.8 for Nikon myself, but decided to buy ticket to NZ instead. Things need to be cheaper in life. |
NZ is the right choice, IMO. The lens can wait. Have a great time, and I know you'll get some great photos with the equipment you already have. |

Where do you go for HELP....Team suck, that's where !
I need to replace the BG with a plain one....and not a clue as to how to do it. I am trying to create a generational collage : father , son , grandson.
I am such a dunce that of all the images I have taken of Luke in the last 20 months ... not one Portrait----someone shoot me !!!! |

Use the extraction tool, then place him in the background of your choice. |

Pat, if you've never used the extraction tool, it has a learning curve (and I'm still on it) and can be a wee bit irritating, but it does work nicely. I believe it's under Filters. You have a nifty magic marker tool to draw the outline. On the right is the place you can change the size, and select "smart edge" which will make it find the edges if they are well defined. Once you've outlined the whole shape you want to extract, use the paint bucket tool to fill the inside. The use Preview (back over on the right) to see how it looks. There are clean-up tools to fix the outline if need be.
To make a generic background, make a new layer, use the gradient tool, pick a neutral color, and create a gradiated background. One thing to try is a double color background - on the first layer pick something like pale green and draw the gradiation from top to bottom. On another new layer (not duplicate layer), pick a pale blue and draw from right to left. You could even overlay a texture on top of those layers, too. |

Crowd colors and team scores are up in the results thread. Congrats to levyj413, and sherpet not only for the top score in her challenge, but also for the week and a top5 of her own!
Someday I'll get back behind the lens, I promise!

Yahoo! Only my third time in the top 10 out of 138 attempts.
Congrats to you, too, Shez. And to Jeb, whose shot held onto its 6+ score. :) And Deb, who entered another fun shot. And to anyone else who did well or accomplished what they set out to do (I've only seen those shots so far).

Since I'm suffering from a level of frustration at work, I may go comment on all the TS entries from the past few challenges.
Haven't looked at my SP score. Not planning on it.
Got a few comments on my fishies that a different angle might have been more interesting - probably true, but I didn't have a different angle I could get to. The fish are sitting on a step down from the walkway where the buyers go to view them, and to get down the steps would have required me to step down amongst the vendors which I didn't think would have been appropriate. But my point (after all that) is that I really appreciate the time the commenters took to offer suggestions! |

Anonynmity doesn't quite hold in a Self Portrait challenge - except for me. My CRS disease is getting so bad I can re-read a book I just finished and not remember how it ends. So while I may know who you are, I may not know it at the moment I vote. :-)
And thanks, Christian!

Funny that with such a low score, all 4 comments are positive comments

I've looked through the self-portrait thumbs, and geez am I going to vote and comment this challenge! There is some wonderful, subtle stuff in there that deserves to be recognized. Don't know how I'm going to do it (I have another US trip this weekend; wish me a better one than I had when I went in November), but I'm going to try my best.
Best of luck to everyone entered and congrats to those who just finished up.
Best,
Rob

My memory is appalling - I thought I was the only person who could 're-read a book I just finished and not remember how it ends'! I have put it down to early onset off advancing age :-( |

Can't remember... uh... stuff. Yeah, that's it. My sister tells me there's an actual name for the phenomenon but she can't remember what it is. |

Omigawd - YUCK!! I inherited the room of the guy who just left - which is why I'm back in Iraq in the first place, and YUCK!! I don't think he cleaned it the entire time he was here (a year.) I just spent my afternoon attempting to make it liveable. On the plus side, one of the thousands of cords on the floor had a live feed to the internet. Woo hoo!
Off to the exchange to buy air freshener, a mattress pad if I can find one (don't even wanna think about it) and an extension cord so when I remember to pick up the coffee pot I just bought (it's at the office) I can make nice fresh Starbucks decaf in my somewhat cleaner room!
My SP is apparently doing well. My running average is running in a positive direction. Let's hope it doesn't do TOO well. Shouldn't, though - there are a lot of fine shots in the challenge.
And Lea, do not take it personally. :-) (I saw your comment in the other thread.) |

Well, I knew this was going to go like this, but I haven't done any self flagellation for a while.

I'm not a handsome guy in the first place, and bad composition didn't help.
On the bright side, someone asked me in a comment if the entry was Posthumous.......so it ain't all bad after all! LOL!!
I am sort of curious as to whether or not I'll get a comment from Fearless Leader.

Now, was that due to your looks or your photographic skill... I think you should feel insulted either way... hahaha |
