WARNING! Guitar Hero leads to hallucinations!
The wife, brother-in-law, and I were playing Guitar Hero last night and after my turn was over I looked down at the patterned rug to the right of the TV. It was moving up & down, as if gentle pulses of water were lifting it up. I thought the basement floor must have been flooding under the rug, and lifting it up, so I crawled over there and started feeling the rug, thinking of how damn expensive it would be to fix the basement.
I didn't feel any wetness or motion.
Slippy: "I think I'm hallucinating! The rug is moving!"
Bob: "I see it too! It's a mass hallucination!"
The wife: "Look at the ceiling by the corner! It looks like it's breathing!"
Try it out, it's way more fun than green poo. Our condition may have been worse, as we were playing on a 52 inch TV, and were pretty close. It was trippy. I think our eyes were fatigued by staring at the notes coming toward us, so when we looked away there were some pretty funky effects.

Oh totally, when you finish a song, the screen is pulsating up and down, but only when you are the onle playing the song, if you just happen to walk in and its on, you dont see it, but after playing shits wild! |

hmm - i haven't noticed things moving after playing.
i sometimes sort of get hypnotized by the notes - especially when there is a long string of the same one repeated.

Definitely easy to zone out while playing this game.
When you play medium, do you use 4 fingers or 3 and slide them up and down? |

combination of both.
i have a hard time with the split chords - mainly blue and red. yellwo and green are easy. so i slide those if i can.
i'm trying to get more in the habit of sliding - as that's whats gonna have to be done in hard and expert if i ever get that far. but it'll still require afour fingers i think...
you play a real guitar?

I'd agree with that! I've completed all the regular songs on Expert except Raining Blood. I have a feeling I could do it all if I could just get past that beginning bit with the really fast runs going down. I have it for PS2 but have a 360 now and am tempted to buy it for that along with a new guitar! For online play and the ability to download the boss battle songs for regular play :) But I'm saving for Rock Band instead, which doesn't even have a release date in the UK yet :(

How is the online play for this? I haven't even attempted to check it out. Im stoked that its there though.
Can you only challenge people on your friends list, or is there a "lobby" where you can play random people. |

no lobby - i wish there was - you sort of have to wait and hope you connect with someone. or you can play against a friends roster. though i haven't gottne that to work yet.
i get a lot of disconnects. 7Mb cable connection.

I might have to pick that up. I love the war games online like that. I used to be a SoCom addict.
I think I need to re-up my WoW account and start kicking some asses. |

mohh2 is pretty fun. i haven't played online too much. let me know if you get it. i think my online name is 'Soup3P'

What I like about Guitar Hero is that you do not have to be a musician play it (Although I am, my son and husband are not) nor do you have to be a hard-core gamer. It is just pure fun. Our whole family plays it - it's challenging but over time you do see considerable improvement in your skills.
I use all four fingers on medium and either slide my hand or stretch my pinkie on hard. And I do not play guitar in real life although I've wanted to for a while, just don't have the time.

You can, can't you? I'm pretty sure I have it unlocked - not sure if it was a download from Xbox Live Marketplace or if I unlocked it while playing the game or if the hubby opened it using a cheat (check out www.gamefaqs.com for cheats, hints and advise).

On the 360 it's okay. I've definitely seen better online matching, but you choose what type of game you want to play (face-off, battle, co-op) and then just wait to be matched with someone. It can take a while sometimes though.
edit to add - I've had the 'hallucinations' too - my couch is textured and has lines running across it that turn into moving waves after a long GH3 session :~}

I have trophies on my shelf I won at Q3 tourneys. I'm a super-nerd! :-)
Sadly, I haven't played for years, though.
I have fond memories of playing online, commonly being a spawn-fragging, camping, rail-whore until being vote-kicked. :-)

I used to love Q3A. Came top of an online league in 5v5 once... ahh them were the days!
Just a GH tip for Hard/Expert...
On songs with lots of orange notes, don't slide and don't stretch your pinky. I find that sliding constantly will ultimately lead to confusion, and your pinky isn't generally the most dexterous or fingers. I use 4 fingers on the top 4 notes and then stretch my index finger down. This works especially well on a song like the intro of Sweet Child of Mine on GH2. It's longer and more used to moving independently :)

By top 4 I mean RYBO, top notes in the scale, rather than on the fret board. Sorry :P
