Rule of Thirds applies to *composition*, not subject.

Scribes! Did you write that down???

Go tell it on the mountain!!

This is, of course, entirely correct :) And anything I said to the contrary is nothing more than hogwash. Hopefully I implied at least this much as well when I examined the Bresson image (the person didn't really fit the lines, but lines from the person -- real or imagined -- did).

*wonders if anyone buys that*

Don't ask - just act as though you assume they did. (At a pinch, you can always blame Bruce).

I'd say you did imply it, but my unwashed brain required big neon signs, choirs of angels, God's trombones, etc.

This is kind of cool - my Free Study photo is doing a very slow reverse-Jeb.

It started at about a 5.2 and is now sitting a hair over 5.7. And I'll bet not a single one of you can even begin to guess which one it is ! *lol*

informal survey. i have 3 photos in contention right now, FS, Colors and Fairy Tale.

of my 13 comments, 5 are positive:

2 are from Team Suckers
2 are from honorary Team Suckers (timfythetoo and jdannells)
1 is from someone who just joined and this is probably the first challenge she's commented on

In other words, I've got a good feel for the suck market...

My Fairy Tale has a confidently mediocre score of 5.6+. More interestingly, it has 2 comments and 2 faves. I love that ratio! (and it's been a loo-o-o--ooong tiime since I got a fave during a challenge)

So....I don't know what this means. My Free Study has stabilized at around 5.4-5.5, and I've got 5 comments.

All five of them are critical, four of five are from *big* guns here.....

For some odd reason, I'm *thrilled*, simply because they took the time to say exactly what they felt and meant, and didn't blow smoke.

They were constructive.

I currently have three entries in voting, with the following scores: 5.7, 4.7, and 3.3. I must be feeling contrary these days, because I just entered Self Portrait with another possible brown ribbon contender.

My FS, which I thought had so much potential, after the first 10 votes was at about 4.5. It has gradually inched up steadily until it is now at 5.97 and still rising, so it may make the magic 6 mark yet! Only 4 comments though, one by a TS'er. All comments positive.

So you've become the typical DPC voter. ;)

Since we're confessing our scores, I'm having a very very good week.

I have a question. It's probably very stupid. The Team Suck League - do the teams "compete" in any way shape or form? Are scores kept track of? I ask because I am quite thick, having read the material and not really having come up with the answer.

We do compete, but in a non-competitive type of way, lol. You can check out a scores results thread here.

I can't wait to see this!

I may have to go vote this challenge just to see if I can find this.

You must have seriously pissed off the trolls.

Dude! Duh!......8>)

You gotta Yappie!

That's the very essence of the spirit of Team Suck, that you're more concerned about giving considered, honest, and useful commentary, than being a score whore.

That's what we tell ourselves for having to play in the same damn playpen as Lawrence, Saberi, Sneezy, Larus, Librodo, Falc, Calvert, and those other meanies who keep most of the ribbons and don't share!

That's what TS is all about....I looked at your profile page, and though I don't in particular remember seeing you in the Posthumous Ribbons thread, your style should have put you there before in the form of a nomination at least.

Yes, we compete, but you get punished, and charged with an assignment to go forth and be constructive in commenting in the challenge where you scored highest.

We may not see things like everyone else, but we see with more than just our eyes.

You've had trouble finding the answer because competition within TS is pretty minor.

The TS teams are more like gangs as opposed to groups who really compete against each other. I can barely remember which team I'm on. TS is more like one big family, sharing life, supporting each other through trials photographic and non, and sometimes even discussing photographic issues and concepts.

The team with the highest score each week wins ... the right to vote on that week's OOBie award. That's about it.

Now, many of us did participate in DPL. For example, Melethia, Noraneko and I are on Critical Mass with some non-TSers. There are also DPL teams composed solely of TSers, one of which (the Out of Focusers) won the championship.

Hi Louis! Feel free to wander about any time. We don't charge admission (though there's a thought..) and we have a good time. 'Tis a friendly place, and comfortable.

Speaking of Team Suck things, I had a nominee for Yappie but can't at this very exact moment remember who it is. It will come to me later.

If it comes to you fast enough, you can make the very first Yappie nomination for the month of December. ;)

My nominee is SaraR. I need to put together an actual nomination, but she's been going to town with comments. Has she been nominated/awarded before?

Doesn't look like it, from all the forum threads with "yappie" in their title; although her name is familiar to me - perhaps she's been nominated before. No harm in that - do scoot over to the nomination thread and post whenever you have your speech ready! :)

Sigh. I know we don't generally rant here but I'm saddened (not entirely selfishly, but a good deal so) by the fact that Nick (boysetsfire) has apparently closed his account here. On the selfish end, any time I got a comment from him on a challenge entry, that was it for me - score could stop then and be any number whatsoever and I was better than good with my entry. I loved perusing his portfolio. I'd try to find scenes and light like his when out and about in Germany (doesn't translate all that well here). His work is inspiring to me. Sure, I can still go find his stuff on flickr, but it's just not the same for me (the selfish part again). On the whole, for DPC, I REALLY like work that isn't the norm, that presents a different "look", a different vision. He was one of the guys that did that in spades.

Wholeheartedly agree. Just read the news myself...

boysetsfire leaving is a bummer, to be sure.
