....is there a tendency for the image to be soft if you don't "super sharpen" before hand?

I noticed this on a differant site, wondering if this is a natural cause of an upload onto the internet.

Do you mean the actual upload itself is causing softness, or the resizing?

The resized photo should appear exactly the same in your browser as it does in Photoshop or any other image viewer.

Yes.

And this is not an "accusational" post, this is a "I don't know if this is true would like to know more" post.

I've never seen any difference between the image as proofed in PS and the image as displayed in DPC, as far as my own work goes. Some of the other sites compress images to save bandwidth; this can definitely have a negative effect on the quality of the image.

That makes sense.

If you want to check this, just open the resized JPG directly in your browser under 'File / Open File...' and compare it to what you see in PS.

If the two are exactly the same, then there are no problems with your workflow, and the issue is then with the web site you're uploading it to (as Robt. pointed out, it could be compressing the image)

I have used websites that will give you different size options that you want the photo to display at. Unless you choose to display it at the original size I've noticed that they can become soft and kind of pixelated. But here on DPC where it displays at original size I think that it should display like it does on your computer.

However, DPC will resize your image if it's bigger than 800x800. I think it then gives you a link to see it at the original size.
