Hey just wanted some thought s on these fotos. I just used window lighting and a reflector. ANy suggestions on improving or lighting features that I may have missed

Wow, I think these are absolutely amazing. Their skintones look so natural... and the catchlights in their eyes are perfect. I've never taken any portraits that came near to the quality of yours, so I can't offer any suggestions on improving them. I just think they're perfect just the way they are. :) What kind of reflector do you use?

thanks.. I dont know the name of the reflector but it is just a 32" round reflector with gold on one side and silver on the other. It was held lower (my right) of the subjects about 2 feet away.

I also think these are perfect. I think the lighting is great, and I am no expert whatsoever, so would not be one to give any critique.

Beautiful. And a good example of what can be achieved with just window light.

I was going to leave comments ... but I was about to say the same exact thing on each one of them:

GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS!!!

Well done. I think if I had to pick a fave, it would be the last one. She's just darling.

thanks for the comments. This was my second attempt at a "formal" portrait session. I am finding that posing people in a way that seems natural is sometimes very trying..especially kids. Then there is the aspect of an original pose so it doesn't look look like they got these done at Walmart. I guess this is part of the process? Any hints from seasoned pros out there?

I think the lighting is great and overall they are very well done... posing is great, and they have a nice uniformity...
To me the skin just looks slightly unrealistic, did you airbrush or smooth it at all in some manner?

Beautiful! Was there any post processing performed? Amazing how soft the window light was. Was it an overcast day?

Nice! What was the window lighting like? I never really like the ones I take...perhaps I'm overly critical of my own stuff.

[quote=PGerst] Nice! What was the window lighting like? I never really like the ones I take...perhaps I'm overly critical of my own stuff.

The shots were taken around 2:30 in the afternoon. The window is on my left and it faces south. The light fell on the floor just to my left(the subjects right). So they were not in direct light from the window.

As you can see I shot with a 400iso and f1.8 at 1/100s. Also a reflector to brighten up the other side of the face. In hindsight I should have shot with a smaller aperture and slower speed. I am always afraid of getting blurry subjects from hand shake or motion. But what ended up happening was a very shallow DOF that caused a slight sharpness difference from one eye to the other. I didn't use a tripod because with kids they get fidgety and you have to work fast. So trying to setup a tripod for every angle you want to shoot is too hard for me..so I free hand it.

Anyone know of a site where to get ideas on posing all of them together or anyone care to share some of your group shots. Just trying to get a feel of positioning. I know there are no set rules on who sits where but I need something to start with.
thx
