At work (Sears), they get Wii's randomly, they come on a UPS truck, not the usuall Wed/Fri shipments. We never know when we will have them in stock.

Its pretty funny that arguably the best title out for Wii is the Sports games that come bundled with the game, and from what I have read Mario Galaxies is hands down the Title to buy to show off the gameplay/graphics of the system.. Zelda also (from reviews) is a good game.. I personally would like the Classic games you can download, they even have genesis and turbo GrFX-16.

But buyer Beware alot of Wii games are pretty bad.

If they're including an extra controller in whatever bundle, then yes. When I bought my Wii it only had one controller in the box.

Besides, who needs an extra controller when all you need is one controller and a baby ?

The bundle

I am not sure we are going to buy it just yet. Still debating that price.

I would really hate to spend that much and think the games suck!

I got a Wii last Christmas. The included Sports game is great fun. But what I've found is that it's more of a 'party' game. We only ever switch it on when we have people around to the house, and we're having a few drinks.

I was addicted to Zelda for a few weeks, but got bored when I got stuck at a particular point in the game. I bought super monkey ball but returned it because the UI wouldn't let you replay levels that you've already covered (i.e. not much good for two players)

The last game I got was Boogie, which is the karaoke game, comes with a microphone. Again, it's okay for a party game, but I sat down with it and concentrated on how it worked, and it's pretty inaccurate really. I gave the microphone to my 2yo and by just shouting/babbling into it he scored a silver medal in one of the challenges.

I've now got my eye on Mario Galaxy (or whatever it's called) for this Christmas. Either I've just 'grown out' of console games, I don't get as addicted to games as I used to, or the Wii has limited appeal. I'm not quite sure.

ETA: I play my DS Lite *far* more than the Wii...

Out of that game list I would think that Mario Party / Wario / & Rayman(heard that was really fun) would be decent selections.

Not sure about the other titles-- I would goto Gamespot.com and look at the Wii game reviews for ideas, look at user reviews rather than the sites too..

Well I have grown out of gaming myself. I used to play every game I could get my hands on PS or PC. Now I could care less. This will be for the kids but the reasoning we had behind it was to have something to do with the kids rather than watch re-runs of Hanna Montana all the time. Or course we still have the board games but wanted to have a little something extra.

For that purpose I've got my eye on some really nice train sets. However, I don't think my wife is convinced that a 2-year-old would fully appreciate a train set. ;-)

Here in Japan you can buy them at the 7-11 practically.

Not sure about zones, and if they will work in the US or even if they have english text though

Rex, do the kids have Nintendo DS's?

Those are alot easier to find, and have excellent game titles too, hell you can even buy a browser cart that lets you surf the internet in hotspots!

The new Cherry red is sweet looking, and speaking of Hannah Montana, theres a new cool game where you can play along with songs (Guitar Hero'ish) and even record em..

If they dont have DS's I would think that would be a great gift. Plus they can play against eachother on some titles..

I even Want a DS and I'm 30 something, lol :)

Oh yeah, absolutely! - My brother and I brought two DS Lites on holiday with us and spent hours playing 2-player Mario (you only need a card in one of the machines). It was great fun. We could sit outside a bar, or on the beach, playing Mario and swearing at each other. :)

The brain training games (there are a few varieties) are excellent, and things get very competitive between players. I think the DS Lite has a very playable, very addictive quality to it. Plus, it's such a neat little gadget, it's irresistible. :)

The only thing I'll mention on the internet wi-fi card is that it's a nightmare to try and set it up (and it doesn't work on certain types of secure wi-fi networks) - Also, the browser is very slow when you do get it working.

Well I was going to try and include the whole family in on the fun and maybe friends when they come over.

Any luck, yet? Keep looking. It's worth it. Great fun for all ages and get's you up and moving. I was able to get mine in a smalltown Walmart. I was shopping earlier in the day and they told me they'd have a shipment at midnight so I went back around 10:30 or so and was first in line. :)

Wow, these really sold out? PLENTY of them in the shops here in South Africa. In some shops you have to almost climb over them to get in....

Sold out and people are paying insane pricing for them on eBay.

Anybody looked at their local craigslist? My neighbor bought one last week for just 50.00 over the retail price. I'll keep a look out here too. My husband ended up getting ours from a woman who works for Nintendo. They sold her a car at the dealership where he works and it took her about 2 weeks to get us one but that was during the summer. The Wii sports that comes with the console is so much fun. I like the bowling best myself. My husband and son do all of the others either against one another or singularly. The extra nunchucks and controllers are available everywhere.

I just bought one for my sister, I was looking around at the walmart and scooped it up for $250 USD

Games I own and my thoughts on them:

Wii Sports - awesome little game that gets you used to the controller system, great at parties as well.

Wario Smooth Moves - funny deal, nothing to mind bending on it, just do what it tells you and youll be fine. I beat it relatively quickly.

Rayman - really awesome game, its repetitive, but fun. Beat it quickly, but then you can go back and try to beat all your scores.

Zelda - AMAZING. Last years Game of the Year. Awesome interface, controller functions are easy enough, and the story is fun. MUST HAVE.

Excite Truck - Just a cool little racing game, nothing ground breaking, but very fun none the less.

Need For Speed Carbon - just another racing game, impressive graphics compared to the other wii games. The controls got a little rough.

Spinter Cell - Shittty. Its a good game, just not a good wii game. They didn't spend enough time making this game specific for the Wii, since it was ported on the other 2 systems, so any wii-remote motion functions just seem thrown in and forced.

X-Men Ultimate Alliance - decent game, same deal as Splinter Cell, the wii-remote actions are lame and unneccessary. GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Trauma Center - realllly reallly awesome game. You are a surgeon and you perform operations on people using the remotes as tools. Really really cool. Hard at times, but definitely another MUST HAVE.

Super Paper Mario - really fun game, frustrating and repetitive at times, but overall a good time, and a great start for Mario on the Wii.

Tony Hawk Proving Ground - same old Tony Hawk game, nothing ground breaking. The remote actions are a little finicky since al ot of them are very similar to each other, so it can get frustrating, but overall, if you liked the other tony hawk games, youll like this one.

GUITAR HERO III - ITS GUITAR HERO. MUST HAVE. AMAZING FUN.

Games I havent played but you gotta get according to things ive heard:
Metroid.
Mario Strikers.
Olympics (played and its fun, similar to Wii Sports)
SUPER MARIO GALAXY - MUST HAVE!! (will be getting this one very soon)

WHAT IVE LEARNED:
Most franchise games stink (think anything based off a movie)
Games that are ported for every system arent as good as Wii specific games.

I did read last night that you can buy the old games and they will work on the Wii. This is a big selling point for me. I am convinced but the wife is not.....not yet at least. If anyone finds a console for the $250 price I will buy it from them but if not by the time the wife says ok I will more than likely buy the $650 bundle.

The only game I have ever played on computer or any game station is Chess.
Chess is only because computer plays faster than people. (usually).
Since I never played video games I might have missed a big thing.

"I did read last night that you can buy the old games and they will work on the Wii. This is a big selling point for me."

Not sure what you mean by this.

Wii DOES play your old GAMECUBE games (and accepts your old gamecube controllers as well)

You can buy classic games fro the "virtual console" from the Wii Store online (Wii is Wifi, so you download straight to the console) But not every game is available, and they cost anywhere from 5-10 I think.

Has anyone played Madden on the Wii? I've heard mixed reviews
11/29/2007 01:03:46 PM · #73
At the rate of exchange, the Wii sells for about $387 in South Africa.

I have a wii, got to say that Mario Galaxy is one of the best games I have ever played. Its just beautiful! When i was about 12 my friend got supermario world on the snes, I was so in awe I forgot to go home! well, Super mario galaxy made me feel like that again!

I have red-steel and metroid that are both excellent, but they get quite tricky. At least there are some wii games for the hardcore gamer. I can't wait for mariokart to come out!

We just got this over the weekend. My husband has played all the old Madden games (on Game Cube and X-box). It took him 8 hours of playing to figure all the controls out. He likes it now but it just took a while and a lot of cursing before he could enjoy it.

He was the same way with Tiger Woods. It took a lot of practice to get his swing just right. Its a great game now that he has it figured out.

I play Big Brain Acadamy it is such a fun game. A great one to play against my husband or when we have friends over.

We have Carnival Games as well. That one is great because everyone can play. From my 3 year old to my mother, who never plays games but loves this one.

We also have
Mario Party- Ok at first but better as a party game.
Mario Sonic Olympics - Great game but better with friends
Guitar Hero- Great Game!!!!
Happy Feet - Boring for me but my 3 year old loves it.
Cars Tow Mater - My son loves this one. We got him the stearing wheel and he can actually play it pretty good. (We are also looking foward to Mario Cart)

hmm... I think thats it
