We've made our own christmas cards which are 4"x8". Does anybody know a good quality online printer who will print a weird size like this for a decent price? |

We would generally print two on an 8x10 and cut them ourselves. Of course, the feasibility of this depends on how many people you know. =) |

I'm not familiar with what 4xD means. |

4 by dimension or anything that is not 4x6.

Costco offers an 8x12 size, so you could make it three-up on that. |

I thought 4x8 was the standard 'card' size, isn't it?
You should be able to upload or take it in anywhere like walmart or motophoto and just get cards- and they'll have envelopes too! :0)

The problem with that is a) I have my own graphic art on the side (I don't think I could upload that to walmart; they have their own clip art on the sides) and b) cards are 0.33, 4x8 prints are .12. |

well, it turns out that 4xD ISN'T 4x8 but rather 4x5.33 which makes no sense to me. I got the prints and they were shrunk to a 4x5 size with white on the top and bottom. I sent an email assuming there was an error and got this reply:
The 4XD size print is 4" x 5.33". The 4x8 prints are our holiday cards.
Did I miss something on the website? I'm pretty annoyed.

4x5.33 is the "native" (4:3) aspect ratio of most digital cameras. It's a way to print directly off the camera card without cropping or leaving white strips on two sides of a 4x6. |

That's pretty jacked up... 4xD, as far as I know, is supposed to be 4x(whatever it takes to get the correct ratio), used by 4:3 cams and panoramas.
Anyway, I think they just don't want people saving money by designing their own cards. It's obvious they can print the damn things.
If I gave you the wrong info, I sincerely apologize. Who did you go with?

Don't worry Leroy, it's $7 out of my life. They have cards that can be printed but at .89. Walmart can print cards at 0.33, but the question is will they print my whole card or do I have to use their fonts and clipart for the "card" portion.
I'll check them out tonight.
