... not to buy the Canon 5D?

Who's got excuses, or knows a better camera than this one, in this pricerange?

With other words:

Yahooo!

At the end of this year I'm gonna buy myself a 5D :D

You will never regret it.
Having used the 350D, 20D, 30D, 5D and the MKIII, the 5D is hands-down my favorite and will be my next body.

Now excuse me while I try and get some of this envious green color off my skin....

I use the 5D for portraiture. Can't think of a better camera in this price range. The next step up is a 1Ds camera and that's a lot of money.

The only reason I can think of to hesitate: There's rumor of a 5D replacement early next year (February?). But then ... it's always better to get what you need "now" than to be forever waiting for the next best thing.

@ Jedusi: cheapest here in holland is € 1999,- Without tax that is 1700, and 200 euro-cashback. that means my cam is gonna cost me ± 1500 euros. Mwah. I like that :D

@ Brad: I know.. your story about the 5D was a convincing one ;)

@ David: The 5D replacement is probably like 1000 euro's more. I don't have that money. Besides, I've only heard good things about the 5D.. ;)

WOO!

The 5D replacement will definitely be quite a bit more. I'm sure it will be a great cam but, well, a bird in the hand...
After over two years with the 5D I'm not really considering upgrading to the replacement, and that is a statement about just how good the 5D really is. It still holds top spot in image quality for the money, IMO. The Nikon D300 is right there, but that's after 2+ years, and it's still APS-C.
So bottom line, nope, can't convince you not to do it :-)

Most people love the 5D. I don't. I have several friends that don't as well.
We now have chosen 40D and 1Dmk3 models instead.

Why? Mainly AF, and the IQ advantage that made it THE choice is now avaialble in the 40D for a lot less money, and it's newer tech, self cleaning, and more. The 1Dmk3 beats it in AF all around, and the 9 points are the same spacing as the 20/30/40 models - but the sensor is FF so there is a LOT of space with no AF points. I couldn't get used to that - way too much focus-recompose and missed shots because of it.

If you must have FF, then it's still the camera to buy.

are there more people who have this same experience?

Wait until the 5D Mark II announcement comes out in Jan then the regular 5D should be discounted. Thus no excuse.

I liked the 5D for the short times I handled it. It creates great files and is a pleasure to work with. Unless you print really big, you don't need more.

Would love a D3 though....
