| I was wondering does it make a difference whether you select jpeg artifact or reduce color noise when dealing with portraits? Just curious! |

But
If You Look up NeatImage, the program is 1000000x better than PS when reducing noise =]
Download it, its awesome. Free too. [to an extent]

Actually, it's not necessarily true. The Reduce in CS2/3 is quite good.
To the OP:
Reduce Color Noise will help if there is color noise present. I don't usually see much color noise, but rather luminance noise (noise that is lighter/darker than surrounding pixels, but the same color). My 8700 did have lots of color noise at high ISO.
JPEG artifact will only help if you make a habit out of saving highly compressed JPGs. If you are working from a RAW file or a JPEG that is not highly compressed this option can actually deteriorate your image.
Basically, use these cures only if the condition exists. |

I agree with Shirley. With Neat Image, you have more and finer control over the noise elimination process.
