Has anyone any suggestions about don't-miss spots in or around Cozumel? |

Passion Island. Beautiful beaches and water. It's where the Corona commercials are filmed. |

Not necessarily the most photogenic spot, but you'll have a fun time at Carlos & Charlie's :) |

Plenty of Mayan ruins around, some on Cozumel itself. |

I plan on hitting San Gervasi as it looks like it has the largest lizard population. I don't think I will make time to see the (nicer) ruins inland. |

Other than diving, snorkling, and bar hopping there isn't a whole lot to do on Cozumel. It's a small island.
Rent a car for half a day and then drive around the island, stopping at all the bars and beaches on the east side. There's only one road, so it's really hard to get lost. The last time we were there our dive trips got cancelled because the wind was blowing a little too hard. So we got a car and did just that. We were with another couple and we all had a very good time.
Passion Island is a beautiful spot, and can be a lot of fun too.
If you get bored you can ride the ferry to the mainland. Then hop a bus or taxi into Cancun or go visit one of the many Mayan ruins.
P.S. If you do rent a car, be sure to buy the insurance. If you get into an accident without it you will be sorry.
Have fun!

I believe, due to the massive size of the drinks, it only took me one to feel pretty festive. We were there on a cruise, and I can remember wandering back to the dock, and making very poor efforts to practice my high school knowledge of Spanish with some local shopkeepers en route. ("Donde esta el banyo" came in handy.)

we rented a jeep, drove around like fools and played in the ocean. The East side of the island has such massive waves. I didnt "THINK" about salt spray on my lens.... oy.... so my pictures all turned out looking like salt spray all over them... |

Cozumel is wonderful!!!! We went there a little over ten years ago......37 inches of snow on the ground, snow falling from the sky, we ran screaming to the tropics.
Had already been to Acapulco, which is noisy and cheesy, and Cancun is more like a college town, whereas Cozumel is a quiet island.
There are any number of quiet local spots that are great eats, lovely long peaceful days, and beautiful weather. The coast road around the island is just lovely, and the people are really nice.
There's a national park/beach called Chankanaub that you walk right in and snorkel, there's an international pier that the huge cruise ships pull into, there's a downtown shopping area, there are some minor ruins on the island.
We went at the end of March '94.......our daughter was born Dec. 28th, '94.
Did I mention that Cozumel is the island of the Mayan fertility goddess?
If you like Mayan ruins, Tulum, down the coast a little, is one of the most spectacular of them all......it's on cliffs overlooking the Gulf.

There's another fairly well preserved ruins inland a bit called Koba that's really nice as well.
You can take day trips to sport fish or scuba, snorkel if you're not scuba certified, and if you've scuba'd before and think that snorkeling doesn't cut it, in Cozumel, it's fabulous!!!! You'll be taken to a place called Palancar reef to dive, and it was Jacques Cousteau's 2nd favorite place in the world to dive.
I can't wait to go back, and it was the trip of a lifetime.....we're no neophytes to travel and mnowing how to get the most out of a vacation, and if I was only allowed to take one ,ore vacation in my whole life, but I could go anywhere......it'd be Cozumel.
This was the place we stayed: //www.cozumel-hotels.net/la_ceiba/
