Short from being one of the generic Canon vs. Nikon threads, I would like to know preferences people have on both. I had a Rebel 2000 before this, and I thought it was great, although I haven't tried a Nikon camera before, which contributes to my trepidation towards getting a D40. I don't plan on getting a new lens anytime soon either. What are major pros/cons of both?
Thanks in advance.

Any Nikon lens that doesn't have a motor inside, will not auto focus on the D40, it has no motor drive. So no prime lens autofocus, among a few other lenses as well. Biggest draw back I think.

That's about it in a nutshell.

If you have no problem with being locked into buying only Nikkor lenses, it's fine.
