I just recently picked up a new Sony DSC-F717 and I would like to take pictures of objects like plants, flowers and insects... What do I need to do this and get a good focus and what other items are recomended for good shooting with this Camera?

Thank You

You'll love your 717...I recommend an additional close-up lens...I use the Canon 250, and also have used a set of diopters on top of these which sometime seems to help. Critical is excellent lighting and shoot under aperture priority with f8 setting for to improve dof. Then read, shoot, practice, read some more, re-shoot, etc. Good luck...I think you'll have fun with it!

Is there a recomended brand? I noticed anything SONY has big price tags. I assumed for either cheaper or the same price I could get better lenses & filters from someone else!

Sony lenses/etc do have a big price tag, but Sony makes quality stuff, too. But, cheaper stuff is still pretty good, too.
