OK, Im pretty good with html and now am trying to make a page with php/mysql.

Ive set it up and gotten it to work on my computer.
What i want to do is make it live on my webhost. They told me that they support php/mysql but do not have any kind of control panel to set it up and i must do this myself. Every guide ive read says "put msq on your webhost" and i cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that.
I feel like im reading a car manual where it says 'start your car' and im asking 'how do you start a car?'

If any one knows about how to do this or needs more info from me, please help me out! Its been 5 days now and im about to delete everything...

I'll send you a bottle of Sake :)

What way do you access your webhost for setting up and managing your domains? e.g. if you want to add a new email address to your domain, how do you do it?

The reason I'm asking this is because my webhosts use Plesk control panel which is a web based system that allows me to manage everything to do with my domains. Including setting up mysql databases etc.

Thats one of my problems, I only access with FTP, because all we have is a web host account with them

We get email accounts from our internet provider (different company)

EDit: Do you use that Series E lens a lot? I have one too i found on an old camera at my parents - so far it makes good shots but i miss 90% of them due to bad settings on my part

I doubt you'll be able to setup mysql using just FTP access. You'll need control panel, or at the very least some kind of shell/telnet access to run the commands you'll need to configure it.

Even if the host already has mysql installed for you, you'll need some way of creating databases, tables, user accounts etc. And the only way to do this (that I know of) is via control panel or telnet.

P.S. I love the 50mm series E. It's an acquired taste! - And it does take getting used to, as there's no metering and it's manual focus. But photos taken with it have a very nice quality to them.

Your new best friend: phpMyAdmin

SSH to install mysql and like JP says phpmyadmin is your friend and you may need to install that too. If the server is running redhat you could use RPM's

I would recommend switching to a webhost who offers a single domain account with CPanel and phpadmin installed - you shouldn't pay more than $4-$5/month.

You know, you have a point there, we are paying a whole lot for this space and not getting much in return.

If you switch webhosts, what happens to your domain name? can you transfer it? im guessing yes

Sure, they are separate. Usually your domain registrant has a control panel where you can assign a new DNS server for your domain.
