Talj and I recently went to Mull and our visit just happened to be during the Tunnocks Tour of Mull (billed as the best Rally in the world).

Touring the Island over 3 nights was certainly tough with just 79 of the 165 starters finishing! My night shots left a lot to be desired but think we both came back with some decent daytime shots.

Does anybody have tips for shooting a Rally?

Our shots are uploaded here

*friendly bump*

I'd be interested to see if anyone here can offer up some hints and tips for rally/motorsports photography too! As we didnt actually go with the intention of taking pictures of the rally we just took a few snaps....which actually turned into a few hundred snaps!

It would be great when we go back next year if we can come back with some great night shots as well as shots of the day time stages.

So, motorsport/rally fans...what are your secrets? ;o)

Had a quick look - A couple of nice ones.

I think the key to motorsports shots is positioning. You need to be shooting from a point of view that doesn't make it look like you were a spectator taking snap shots. Get creative! Also, as ever, consider your backgrounds. Support trucks and hotdog vans in the background can ruin a good shot, People are not so bad if yoiu are making a cheering crowd a feature of the shot for example.

Personally, I love sharp, panned shots. Especially of Rally cars, with a nice tail of gravel spraying out of the back of the car.

I'm no pro by the way, just love Rallying!

I don't think I have any of my shots on line at the moment? I'll go have a look...

OK - Found a couple of my favs from last years WRC - Rally GB:

me too :( txs for your reply Al :) and yes if I were to show them myself I'd only pick a few (we were hoping a few of the drivers bought images of their cars - and a few did).

Thats great - Did they buy 'cos they liked the pics or to support the charity, or both?
