I was reading this article online, and thought it would be a really cute challenge...
Your Dog Rides Inside
In Alaska it is illegal to tie a dog to the roof of your car. As far as we're aware, there's still no law against tying a bunch of dogs to the front of your sled.
Is just one of the crazy laws I read. Of course it wouldn't just have to be strange driving laws, it could be strange laws in general.

I wasn't sure if it had been done before or not, but as I was reading the article, along with the pictures, some of them really made me laugh, which made me think it would be a fun challenge. |

The New Yorkers here could tempt fate and have someone puton a windows puppet show and photograph that:

Here's some other laws:

In Colorado:
It is illegal to ride a horse while under the influence.
That is funny since I actually know people who got ticketed for this very offense.....you know you're a redneck when....lol

Rednecks ride horses? Like hell they do... They drive pickups with gun racks. How about "You know you're a cowboy when..."?

In Alaska:
While it is legal to shoot bears, waking a sleeping bear for the purpose of taking a photograph is prohibited.
It is considered an offense to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.
A law in Fairbanks does not allow moose to have sex on city streets.

Makes sense, but you have to think that someone probably actually did that, and that is why they made the law, lol. |

You've GOT to be kidding!
*****************
"In Pennsylvania, "Any motorist driving along a country road at night must stop every mile and send up a rocket signal, wait ten minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, and then continue." This same statute goes on to say: "Any motorist who sights a team of horses coming towards him must pull well off the road, cover his car with a blanket or canvas that blends with the countryside, and let the horses pass. If the horses appear skittish, the motorist must take his car apart, piece by piece, and hide it under the nearest bushes."

lol.. Those are great.. My hubby always teases me to be thankful that we don't live in the state that says:
It's illegal to beat your spouse with any device that's circumfrence is larger then your thumb...
I wish I remember what state it was.. I'd be willing to guess it's from Ohio since that's where he grew up.. I doubt it's in effect anymore, but can you imagine a time when that was OK.. lol - sick.. :-P |

An astonishing number of obscure/archaic laws are still on the books in many, many states/countries. They just don't (usually) enforce them. But it takes a lot of work to get a law off the books.

Here are a couple from San Francisco:
It is illegal to wipe one's car with used underwear.
Persons classified as "ugly" may not walk down any street.

Not necessarily a law, but in Michigan, the County Clerk will pay 10 cents for every rat's head brought in. |

I'm having trouble with the logic, here. You can kill it, but you can't make it mad because ... what, it might file a complaint and the park rangers would have to deal with it? Couldn't they just let Darwinism handle this sort of thing?
Um, out of curiousity, is it legal for animals other than moose to have sex on the streets of Fairbanks? Sounds like speciesism to me. And are there little signs with stick figure mooses in love with a line through them so they know it's against the law? Shouldn't they get off ... wait, let me rephrase that ... shouldn't they be given a warning for a first offense?
Great idea for a challenge, BTW :-) |

it's legal to shoot a Scotsman, within the walls of York, as long as you use a crossbow.
it's also legal to drive a herd of sheep across London bridge (which is not the fancy-dan one with all turrets and scroll work, but a rather plain modern one up river from that one, which is called tower bridge.)

I wanted to make sure that this challenge wouldn't be partial to the US, and it isnt....
In Australia, it is illegal to name any animal you plan to eat.
And some others
