My sensor is in bad shape on my D70, so I'm at the point of fix or replace.

I found this deal online. Does this seem too cheap to anyone?

Yup - what the others said... I had my near-brush with death through them, too.

Forgot to post the second part of my question. Anyone have an estimate of cost to repair/replace the sensor in a D70?

What's wrong with the sensor in your D70. Just curious.

Take a lot of outdoor photos and over the years the sensor seems to have some scratches from carless cleaning. Or there are some dust particles that have fused to it.

Nikon seems to have a tiered system for doing repairs. Instead of charging by individual item, like a sensor, or whatever, they charge a flat rate for different levels of repairs. It seems like most things will end up costing $350-ish.

A few years ago I had a problem with my D100, and sent it in for repair. They gave it a new shutter mechanism, sensor, and other random stuff, and it was $350-ish (I don't remember the exact amount, but it was in that neighborhood).

Seems like pretty much anything you need to have done, they'll charge that same $350-ish amount.

take a shot at f22 or something of a plain subject, a sheet of paper or something, fill the frame with it. iso100, make sure it is out of focus. post it on here and lets have a look..

Shutter mechanism stopped working on my D50 (stuck open when clicked), mailed it to the Melville NY Nikon service center and they fixed it, they also cleaned the sensor.. bill = $0.00 ( my warranty had also expired )

It will be worth sending them the camera and getting an estimate!

yeah I'd say run away too. I shopped for a long time before ordering my D200 last week. I ordered from Cameta. They had the lowest prices anywhere and the customer service is supberb.

I'd keep looking. Like someone told me here before, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I think the cheapest I've seen the D80 new is on BHphoto for 875.

vikas,

that sounds encouraging. I will send it off regardless, but it's nice to see that there's hope to save this thing without spending the cost of a new camera. I'm not that attached, if you know what I mean.

Always check Reseller Ratings online before buying from any company online for the first time.

As for "Best Price Cameras" (a.k.a. "Infiniti Photo" and "J and K Cameras"), check out their rating here.

FWIW... I found this site to be quite valuable a while back when looking for a "good deal"...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...

I was all set to place an order (ready to hit the Submit button) with one of the establishments that just happens to be on "The Bad" list when something told me to do a bit of research. During the search I came across this site. One should also note that many of those that are on The Bad list have multiple identities, including some that are on The Okay list...

In the end, I went with B&H and have done so ever since.
