Yeah, defintely works good on this shot.. nice one.. good job straightening the horizon and croppiong.. looks miles better

After does look much better than the before ...
however...try your hand at shooting 3 or 4 separate photos at different "exposures" and you will see a world of difference from doing it with one raw !

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try a multi-shot HDR pretty soon to see what effect it gives. I was just looking through the HDR challenge and I'm inspired! :) |

Hey great start John. Very nice colors and contrast between the sky and water. Like Kenny said though 3 shot exp. are the best, but great work, I look forward to seeing more. |

Of course, if you have clouds in the sky or waves in water ... you may run into difficulties as the image changes in between each exposure.
My feedback on the After image would be: I like it, but I think I might put it on a layer and then mask out some of the effect to bring back some of the contrast from the Before image. Photomatix is good at bringing different exposures together. But it'll never replace the human eye or the creative mind at deciding "what parts" of the image should be replaced.
