Can anyone tell me if there is a name for the lens effect displayed on the photo below. I understand that it is bokeh in the background - the effect I am curious about is the outlines and posterization look around/on the flower petals and stamen. the focus point was about a foot beyond the flower. The effect could be seen through the viewfinder and wasn't present if the flower was surrounded by the sky only. (needed to have some dark behind it) The photo on the right is for reference so you can tell what you are looking at. Exif data on photos. Thanks.

IMO, it's not really a lens effect as such. Because you have, effectively, several light sources in the background, you're getting multiple "edges" from the OOF flower in the foreground. |

Fritz, that helps to think of the background in terms of "several light sources", which it is, from the sensor's POV. Thanks. |
