We lost a good friend today. Betsy was 12 and had some sudden health problems that caused us to have her put down today. It's going to be really weird not having her around.
I want to make a memorial plaque for her and was thinking about using a photo to create a tintype relief (not sure that's what you call it). Anybody know how those are created, or where to get one made?
Probably use one of these two images...

Here's a few more I just felt like posting.

I like 2 or 4.
I think you might be mixing terms there.
Tintype would require that you had a photo taken with a tintype wet-plate emulsion. Relief implies a sculpture. Can you describe the type of thing you're talking about?
I'd just get a gallery wrap canvas print, I think.

Yeah. Probably the wrong term. I'm thinking of something that can stay outside where we buried her. I've seen aluminum or thin metal with an image engraved/etched/raised on it. That's what I'm thinking of.
Thanks. |

Sorry for your loss....
I have a 14 year old girl (dog) as well.
I think your first port of call would be a trophy shop, they have all sorts of equipment these days or know where it can be done.

Barry:
Our hearts go out to you and your family in your time of loss. We had to put our Australian Shepherd down in August of 2006 and are still at a loss without him, he was 16 and around before our children, At that time of our loss a great friend sent some wonderful words and I would like to share them with you and your family. They are as followes.
Anatole France wrote: " Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
Louis Sabin wrote: " No matter how little money and how few possessions you own having a dog makes you rich."
Were sure your family life was made richer by Betsy, but it's hard when you experience, that loving a pet has it's heartbreak too.
All of your shots with Betsy are wonderful and hold feelings that only you can see, so I think that you can't go wrong with what you feel in your heart.
With heartfelt thoughts for you and your family in this time of sorrow.
All the best.
The Durnfords. Max, Janet-Lynne, Caleb, Isaac and our new dog Louis.

So sorry for your sudden loss.
We have a memorial plaque made much as you describe at work -- I'll try to find out where we had it made on Monday. In the meantime, you might check for places which make plaques and trophies -- they will probably know what you are talking about. |

I'm sorry to hear about the loss. We've lost a few special 4 legged family members in the past as well.
As some ideas, there are sandblasting and laser etching:
//www.scmsysteminc.com/sandblast_process.php
//www.problast.com.au/services/technical_support/w_photo_sandblasting_photopaint.htm
//www.anythingengraving.com/
You can also get water etching done. Just about anything can be etched, metal, wood, glass, etc.
Some of these might give you some ideas of other techniques to look at.

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words. The loss really hit home tonight when I went out to feed the horses and Betsy wasn't right beside me being her happy self. Seemed strangely quiet.
I've looked at some of the links that were so thoughtfully provided and they have pointed me in the right direction for this. Looks like the etching is what I want.
Again, thank you. |
