Earlier today I was out and about using manual mode (Canon EOS 40D). I aimed at a specific area of the composition in order to set the exposure with the "AE-Lock" button (the * button). However, when I would press it, it would not show up in the viewfnder, like it normally has.
I would aim at specific area, press the shutter halfway, turn the dials to adjust aperture and shutter speed to get the correct exposure, then press the * button. Normally, the * shows up in the viewfinder, but it didn't.
I also made sure the the "C.FnIV" setting was not enabled by mistake, but it is disabled.
Did I inadvertently do something that disables the AE-Lock button?

Doh!! I knew that.
What was I thinking? In manual mode there is no AE-Lock, it's all "manual".
Alright, I feel like a doofus now.
Thanks!
