When I upload photos from my camera into Aperture, they are nice and saturated. I have the view proofing profile set at sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 in Aperture and the "Onscreen Proofing" option checked. When I open the same photo in the external editor (Photoshop CS2), the photo is much less saturated, but my working profile is also sRGB IEC61966-2.1. Why do they look so much different?

Which one do I believe when it comes to output?

Thanks a million for your help!

Do you have Proof Colors checked? Its under View I believe.

Well, I just checked it and it wasn't checked, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. What does proof colors mean?

Colors look different under different conditions. For instance a monitor versus a matte print versus a glossy print etc. Proofing is a way to simulate how colors look under different conditions. Just above that proof colors option there's another to select what you are proofing to. Select monitor and that will simulate web viewing and what the image will look like on DPC. This is where you can. Proof to a printer profile that some print labs provide for ultimate color control.

I'll keep messing with the PS settings, but it doesn't seem to change much. The PS photos are not nearly as "colorful" as the Aperture photos. It makes it a real challenge to edit in Photoshop and predict what it will look like in Aperture. I guess the real test is what it will look like once printed. So far, aperture seems to be more like the final print than PS.

What was your camera white balance setting? Most raw software does a bad job of reading it for Nikon cameras.
