I used a sensor cleaning kit on my 5D just now. You can see below it's certainly cleaner than it was, but I was wondering if anyone has tips for getting rid of the bit that appears to just get pushed over to the side rather than removed? I followed the kit instructions as well as those on luminous landscape and didn't lift the pad till I was at sensor's edge.

These are levels adjusted, blackpoint on the bunnies.

edit: Lightroom makes it a 2 second task to clone these out, but I was just curious for curiosity's sake really.

Clean again, starting from the side with the dust and just do the same as you did before.. also, I have used the same pec-pad more than once during a single cleaning exercise and have had no problems.. In fact, as much as the 5D is a pig when it comes to dust, its pretty easy to clean off.

So ultimately it is possible to get it spot free then?

Yes, with a bit of patience and confidence. But if its really tiny then dont bother.

I am process of building a "dust free box" made of plexiglas, and contains two fans with 6 filters and plastic gloves like the ones in laboratories. You open the box, put your camera in there, start the fans to clean inside the box first, then you open shutter clean it with any cleaning kit you may have. I am going to use simple pump. When I take out the camera from the box, it should be cleaned.

With that kind of box, and good filtering, there could be close to %100 sensor cleaning done. You can use it as much as you need it in a year, you don't have to use it all the time.

and sell it for $1,200 a box :P

You don't sell, you 'license'. PM AperturePriority for a tutorial.

After swabbing, it is possible to remove the hard-to-get edge dust. I use Eclipse fluid on a Cotton Tipped Applicator (like a long q-tip but leaves nothing behind). I then finish up with a Rocket-Blower.

Try Scotch Tape, although it's hard to get stuff on the very edge with that method too.

Speck Grabber is a pen like tol with a lump of silicon on the end that is quite tacky, it is excellent for getting at that corner dust. my 5D was quite grotty when I got it and I had to swab it over 10 times to get it streak-free. the bits of dust in the corners was a pain in the butt but a friend reccomended the speck grabber pen for only £10 it was the best tenner i spent all week.

Photofinish in Letchworth herts. I spent £80 on a delkin sensor scope thingy and this little pen gets more specks than that kit ever did, however the delkin swabs are great for stubourn stains. the speck grabber is great for dust but useless for smears, stains.
