RE: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=697956
I was reading this thread all day and decided to chime in. I stated my opinion. A SC member gave her opinion of my opinion and then LOCKED THE THREAD !!! This is UNFAIR and an absolute abuse of power.

If she wanted to lock the thread at my reply...then she should have just locked it. Instead she had the final say and locked it up!

Now... go ahead and lock this thread... I'm just about done with these forums.

Thinking exactly the same.

Ken, I'm sorry. I locked it because the thread never got back on topic, but I felt I had to respond to you. I didn't mean keep you from responding to me, and would unlock for that purpose if you desire. The decision to lock was not a unilateral one.

I am thinking what was the topic of the thread
Crotches or
perverts or
men are perverts

or something else. Whole thread someone being pervert is been discussed i guess. Anyway it was inappropriate to lock it, just because you felt you are done discussion or arguing with others.

well ken, I agree its ok to say you don't want to see gay dating games, etc, and that doesn't make you homophobic. However, that's not what jimbo said. What jimbo said was "at least he's not taking photos of other guys" and other similar comments stating that, essentially, things could be worse, he could be a *gasp* gay activist! That's the homophobia. Hatred for/fear of people who are homosexual.

This thread is beyond its purpose and usefulness. I am locking it.

I agree also. SC's opinion should not have been the final word on this subject. Total abuse of power from an SC member. This thread should have been locked without this opinion thrown in at the last second. Many of us would love to have this option, but those of us who do have it should not abuse it. This is a sad day for DPC forums.

FWIW - even though I don't agree with the politicking going on in the rest of the thread, the homophobe issue was REALLY off topic, making it into a larger discussion about that while allowing the rest to continue (on both sides of it), would have gotten really ugly, really quick.

sometimes there are no good solutions, just workable ones.

fine. you guys win. character assassination at its worse. You have assumed the worst of me, even when I have apologised and explained myself. You have assumed I'm a bad actor, and this is a sad day for DPC. The sad day for DPC happened a long time ago. The thread is unlocked for your OT assassination pleasure.

eta: thanks wavelength. I appreciate your thoughts.

Please do one more thing, please move that thread to rant so that we all could have a go with it with our hearts and mind open.

/Arjun
p.s: I personally do not make impression based on one or two posts of someone, it takes months to come to conclusion about someone. That said nobody liked to be told that you are not allowed to say what you have in your mind. Guess this is the reason we are pissed off.

I'd love to know what posts of mine have formed your opinion of me that I am unfair, capricious or abused my responsibility to this site.

BULLSHIT

We need more locked threads, if you ask me, not fewer. This is a photography forum, people...

no offense, but the topic quickly changed from peoples general feedback about an article to peoples personal opinion on homosexuality. I don't think she locked it because of your comment, I think she locked it because it was teetering on a possibly dangerous subject and it had lived its purpose. What more really needed to be said? If you want to discuss it further I suggest making a thread about homosexuality or whatever subject you choose and then discuss away!

Believe me I have no opinion about you. I do not have enough experience with you to make any opinion. I was infact saying that just because you locked a thread at least I would not make any bady impression about you. Read that reply again.

I am sorry I misunderstood. Understandably, I'm quite hurt from this thread and the accusations leveled at me.

Seriously, you can always start a new one... with a subject line like this one and give back to SC as much as you want... and I think SCs doing pretty good job here to keep things strait IMO.

Just to play devils advocate, you might consider that statement when dealing with others on this site. You might not be the only one who feels their character gets assassinated. You're definitely not one who gets the worst assumed about them in EVERY instance that you post, either.

just a thought.

And I've been on here long enough to at least have a feel for most of the SC. I don't believe for a second that you guys are an unbiased judges of any character here. You have your favorites and whipping boys. I've seen you team up on some like the worst pack of dogs yourselves.

I see injustice in many things the SC, you included, has done over the relatively short time I've been here. Some have directly affected me, some have not. But please don't pretend you're and innocent in all this. You're post, however righteously indignant, was the one that took the thread off topic in the first place, and might be considered a personal attack if you go back an read it with critical mind.

I appreciate being in SC is a labor of love for the site, but a little less passion, and a little more distancing of yourselves from the fray might be a good idea for the site as a whole.

But surely thats just the natural flow of conversation.. When you are sitting & talking with friends do you follow a strict critera of what you plan to talk about? of course not, good conversation naturally flows from one subject into the next, sprouting other lines of topic along the way.

Far be it for me to jump to the defence of the SC, but this comment was very very unfair, and I would say unjustified. bad form wavelength..

I have those on SC I like and those I am not so fond of, it mimics reali-life© afterall. But to say they gang up on certain user.. mate, what are you thinking?

You have no idea what you're talking about, frankly. Or, for that matter, what I am talking about.

Now you made me and probably others very curious. Would you tell us a sample? now you said it out loud, I really would like to know a bit more so I can be more careful :/

I do appreciate your thoughts on this. I spoke in that thread, up until the lock (which was a discussion, not a unilateral decision on my part) as just myself, not as or on behalf of Site Council. I spoke my mind on a topic that concerned me, and I agree, I did response to OT posts because they struck such a chord with me that I could not ignore them. My biggest, and most egregious mistake was to be both myself and SC in the same thread. Something I normally never do, and am unlikely to ever do again.

And while SC may not be perfect, I have to say, that we have more often than not, suffered more attacks than we have levelled.

Actualy, not meaning to start a war with yourself. but I have been here a VERY long time. and in that time I have had no reason to even feel that pick on certain users for the hell of it, especially like a "pack of dogs".. the very worst they could be accused of is the odd lapse of consistancy in their decisions sometimes, but generally, 99.99999% of the time, they do a sterling job.

on the odd occasion they do rise up to defend themselves, its totally justified, after they are (mostly) human and do the job out of love for the site. If someone attacked me physically or verbally or even on the internet, I will retaliate. Why shouldnt they be able to..

you're out of order mate.

SC's great. Selflessly devote 29 hours a day to DPC. Site would come to a crashing halt without them. Hell, give them a second month out of the year to collect accolades.

Having summarized half the posts that are going to fill this thread, let me say without jest that most of the SC does an admirable job of letting a lot of bullshit roll off their shoulders in the spirit of letting things work out on their own and not abusing the powers they have. I appreciate that. It works.

However certain members of the council do seem to be extremely quick to censor posts based on their own opinion of wether or not the topic is being adhered to or, frankly, wether or not they like what is being said. This has happened countless times, so seeing this particular rant appear is about as surprising as watching the sun rise in the morning.

No, I'm not. Simple as that. You don't know, and I don't feel like dredging up the past any more than I have.
