That is very helpful Robert as I just saw some Sig 10-20 examples and they did not handle flares well. Back to the Canons.... :)

The $525 Canon was at KEH but I did see one for sale on one of the boards with hood and UV filter - I'll try to find that one again.

I just recently purchased this lens and I am very happy with it. They make for both Nikon and Canon.

Thanks Robert - I am on the hunt for the Canon :)
How are you doing with that hurricane Noel?

Oh I did consider the Tokina, but I have the 10-17 fisheye and wanted to go the widest possible which is 10mm - when will they make a 5mm?? Ha!

UPDATE - I just ordered the used 10-22 from KEH!

lol I think my Canon 10-22 is welded on my camera...lol I never take it off. I really like shooting with that lens, photos are always nice, I just love how wide I can go or get a photo

the last side challenge we had I think it was the 30 days bw I took all of them with my canon 10-22 lens

Just for the record, Sigma is the only manufacturer that actually reverse engineers ("hacks") the Canon lenses. Tamron, Tokina, and others actually have a license to manufacture that lens from Canon and don't have the rechipping and compatibility issues.

And I went with the Canon 10-22 over the Sigma 10-20 because of the flare issue, lower CA's, and also for the extra 2mm of reach at the long end. That and Canon lenses tend to hold their value more than third party ones.

Yup - exactly what you said. That is what I based my final decision on.

I actually went with the Sigma when I was making a similar chose a year ago. The thing that sold me on the Sigma in the end was that apparently it handles distortion quite differently from the other two: it has very little distortion down to about 12mm, but then goes nuts. Apparently the Canon and Tokina's have significant distortion throughout the scale. I don't know what those two are really like, but in any case I've been very happy with my Sigma.

This can't be correct. The Canon 10-22mm is the most distortion-free UWA I have ever seen...
