Kelli - good to hear from you! And keep doing what you're doing but don't overdo it! I know the whole legal bit would be a giant hassle (and possibly more stress) but it could also be something that could help you and yours out in the future, especially if you aren't able to work for awhile. Heed your lawyer's advice - they will work for you since the more you get, the more they get.

Hi Deb! I'm doing OK, thanks for asking. I'm still tired and can't walk very far without getting the shakes and sweating, but I go a little further each day. I'm "allowed" two city blocks and no prolonged standing (over 30 minutes), so I walk, then sit, than walk, then sit. 18 more days until I have the tests done to find out the damage, though I won't get the results until the 30th. I did talk to a lawyer who says it's an open and shut case for medical negligence, the trouble is, I still haven't figured out who the doctor was and I'm not sure I want to deal with it. I won't make a decision until after I get my test results.

How is the prognosis if you are a good girl and keep up with your diet and exercise? Will you regain strength and stamina?

I know an awful lot of people who've had heart issues and have fully recovered, even gotten better, by leading their life properly.

Will you recover pretty fully?

Well, my something old totally jebbed. We're talking a full point down, lower every time I refresh it. C'est la guerre. I'm also surprised that Free Study is beating Beginning of the End. If you saw my Free Study, you might be surprised, too.

That's right, Jeb, you're a verb now! :D

I don't know. Truthfully I have pushed myself to do more than they've asked, but I don't know how much damage has been done and they are pretty vague. They don't want to say anything until I have these tests done. But I have pretty disturbing heart rhythms that I can actually feel even when I'm not doing anything and it scares me. And when I do exert myself I have some pretty troubling reactions, like breaking out in a bad sweat, shaking, dizziness. I'm taking 8 different prescriptions now and I've been told I'll always be taking these from now on.

As for living my life properly, I've been doing that for years. My diet is very healthy. My cholesterol is 97, and that's not a typo. I've always been a walker. It's not my lifestyle that's causing problems. It's heredity.

Mine has totally jebbed as well. It went from a first vote of "4" to over "7" after 10 votes, and is now dropping like a stone. thank goodness it is still early. I actually thought this one had some "wow" power, but apparently not. LOL

Man, I can't even get mine to Jeb. My Something New started around 5.3 and pretty much stayed there as far as I know. I turned scores off after the first vote on my Free Study was a 5. I don't want to see that one Jeb, that's for sure! :-)

Well free study is down to 5.6 (I first saw it at 5.8333). Still a decent score in my books. Must be that mentor help working magic.

Okay.....my two issues of the day, one, a thought, and the other a question.

My thought: I score a speed challenge a little more leniently because I look at a couple of things differently than in other challenges. Good preparation gets extra consideration because the timeframe is so limited. Composition is a plus, and the fun factor is a good one too. By that I mean, if it's obvious that the entrant/entry looked at the speed challenge with a devil may care, and just pulled something cool out of the hat and it works, I reward that.

I've just been voting the Halloween challenge and I'm amazed and pleased at the offings to vote.

My question: Starting with a statement or two......I have finished commenting on the Ground Up entries, was glad to see that I'd commented on about half of them during the challenge, and I commented on some things that didn't work for me. I feel badly about that, but I'm trying to put myself in the place of the recipients and I'd rather get a comment that I didn't like that was honest in a constructive way that have someone blow smoke at me.

I find that I'll sometimes chicken out in a challenge 'cause I don't want to offend anyone and just point out what I can find that's good. Sometimes that's a real chore and I wonder if I'm doing the entrant a disservice that way. By the same token, some comments are so brutal they make me cringe.

So please sound off, and if anyone got a comment from me that seems off base, PLEASE explain what I didn't see, and that will help me as well.

-----
Because I really do not know that much at all (proof positive look at my average score) I tend to not critique a photo. UNLESS it has some design issues. Then I will either say why it works from a design standpoint, or what they could do better from that same design standpoint.
I'm happy being a cheerleader. (I don't think it is blowing smoke to say you like something.) If there is something that rubs me wrong about the shot, I'll say it. I, on the other hand, prefer to get REAL constructive comments tempered with modesty, of course. And most of the Team Suck members know how to do this well.

You guys are too much! LOL!!!

My Free Study has been climbing ever so slightly ever since its 4.8750 start. It's not a strong entry, but consistent with all my others.

I *AM* a cheerleader! LOL!!!

I try and point out what I like for the same reasons that I point out what I don't like. I'm just much more of a chickensh*t when it comes to the constructive, but negative commentary.

I do also feel that the people here are quite good at being helpful and constructive on the less than desirable facets of an image.......thereby making me feel that much more of a bull in a china shop with my critiquing since I have virtually NO technical skill......I only know some basics and what I like, or don't like, about an image. I try to pass that subjective info on to the photog.

I loved it, it's underrated IMO, and I still want to know how you got it all in the frame and still managed to convey its size.

Thanks you, thank you. I was a bit miffed about the lack of recognition for that brilliant shot, but it seems as though 'from the ground' is just filler for the theme 'from the ground up'. Most shots were just up. In order to include the ground, I had to get down in the ditch. In order to get down in the ditch I had to wait until most of the people working on site had gone and then ask permission of a couple of machine operators that were left. Now, if I'd just referred to the How to Succeed in Photography Handbook, it might have explained that I should stick my neck out and be prepared to boldly go where others have never split infinitives. Sometimes people can let a little confused between what is colloquially known as 'having the arsehole' to do something, and simply being an arsehole by doing it. So rather than put myself and others at risk and create diverse stress and agro by leaping into the pit for the sake of my 'art', I waited until the coast and such like things were clear, by which time the light was waning and I had to use the wide aperture that partially contributes to the lack of sharpness. So maybe the arsehole handbook has a a point.
Even though I was actually in the hole, I still couldn't get my head and the camera both together, low enough to include earth and the whole machine in the frame. I had to put the camera on the ground (actually on my hat, so as not to get it full of sand) and rock it on one end while taking a burst of shots, in the hopes of one of them containing everything I wanted. Which it did. So now you know. And somebody loves it, so all's well . . .

If your batteries say L-ion then they're lithium ion batteries and they don't have memories and you can charge them often. That is unless I'm wrong, of course. Not that I've actually ever been wrong about anything . . .

Have I mentioned lately that I have the most wicked crush on you? :-) Never fear - I'm perfectly harmless... I'm the one wives send their husbands to play golf with, knowing full well we'll... play golf.

Thanks, Deb. I personally suspect that you are packed with latent harm. Course, a little bit of harm never hurt anyone...

packed with latent harm.... hmmm, now there's a phrase one doesn't hear often.

i was thinking the other day, we suckers are a pretty far flung bunch, who seem to have moved around quite a lot what's the tally on countries lived in by all of us? i've lived in 3: Canada, England and Botswana(unless you count a summer in France at age 6, then it's 4).

just got this comment on my free study, which is still at 4.5: i cant quite explain what i like about this, but it made me stop and stare. i do like it. . now that's the kind of reaction i'm looking for! i can't wait to see the voting pattern!

i was trying to figure out how to get prints here quickly, so i can set up my display in the emporium asap. i finally thought of DPC (a little slow, i know) and the amazing strength of our dollar. so, i ordered 80 prints, am having them couriered, and it's costing me almost $100 less than having it done in quebec and me picking up them up at the depot. COOL! so, i hopefully by the start of the week after next, i should have a permanent stand selling my stuff in the village. ULTRA COOOOOL!

Cool! Can you take a picture of your stand of . . . um . . . well, um, pictures? :P

Best of luck on your launch (and really, I'd love to see a picture of it)!

Best,

Rob

Edit to add: I'm sitting here, it's 9:18pm GMT, and I've got about thirty minutes. I feel like commenting, but don't feel like looking at the challenges (why not? I just don't; so there). So, who would like some comments on their portfolio? Sorry for the short notice and time (I might do this again, who knows), but that's my evening tonight. And, I'm in a story telling mood, so if you're looking for critiques, you're likely to be disappointed.
