San Francisco and it felt close to the type of movement during the big 1989 one. |

I felt it, its about 50 miles away from me, abit a shaking going on. 5.6 is abit bigger than normal. Felt it start a little than a couple bigger shakes, probably 2-4 sec. Nothing fell though and went back to madly editing photos for upcoming challenge, LOL. |

Yes, I felt it here in San Francisco. I was sitting at a stop light and asked my daughter to stop shaking the car back and forth. It was pretty strong here, so it must have been scary down in San Jose.

Nothing at our house. Funny as I was sitting on the massage chair that we have and thought someone just turned it on, but noticed the hanging pictures moving. |

Gee, have to turn on DPC to find out there was an earthquake! Now that's community for you.
My place is on solid rock, so, no, I didn't feel anything and neither cat complained. |

I'm 25 miles away and I felt it, which suprised me because I've never felt one at my house before because we're on solid bedrock. I was just getting done carving my pumpkin and I felt myself jolt and rock for a second and looked around to see that my houseplants were shaking. I dropped my knife and said "earthquake..EARTHQUAKE...EARTHQUAKE!!!" My stepdad had a very bewildered look on his face as I ran out the door yelling because apparently he didn't feel a thing, lol. How long did it last? I'm guessing 15-20 seconds.

I'm 70 miles north, felt a little motion for a few seconds, noted the hanging plant swinging about 4 to 5 inches (10-12 cm) on a 20 inch (50 cm) radius. |

I felt it up in Concord -- not too strong there.

I'm in town for the week and am downtown on the 18th floor of a 26-story hotel.
Yes, the whole building rocked back and forth for a minute or so. Curtains, lamps, and my hanging clothes in the closet were swaying a good minute or more afterwards.
I calculated it at about 8-9 miles away (in the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose).
In the past, I've felt quite a few quakes since I live in southern California. Tonight's quake was my second strongest one. The strongest one I've felt was the Northridge quake in '94.
However, there were no photo opportunities from where I am located. ;-)

5.6 does anything get damaged with that?
where Im from buildings are not made of the best materials usually and anything under 6 is shrugged off..

Great earthquake footage
Best I could find on youtube, but here is the main jolt caught on tape at a convenient store.

So far today - and we still have another hour to go.....we've had 30 earthquakes in Alaska. Yesterday there were 55 quakes. This is nothing unusual. Todays quakes ranged between magnitudes 1.00 to 4.2
