| Why do people say a photo is a snap shot? How can a action photo be anything but a snap shot? You can not get the people or things in the action photo to pose. You position your self to get the best photo but it is a snap shot. Why are snap shots bad? If someone else knows another way to take a action photo please let me know. |

| People usually mean it's was a photo taken with little regard for the background, lighting etc. |

Lets say you are standing in the bleachers at a high school football game. You have your camera and snap a few of the game.
In the forground you have a water cart and some empty bottles. You can also see the back of the heads of several people in the stands...
...this in my opinion is a snapshot...even if you caught a wide receiver with the ball on his fingertips.
Now...you gain permission to go close to the side lines. You get in front of all the junk on the sidelines. You have your fill flash on to lighten up the shadows cast by the lights.
You squat down because you plan to get a shot from the ground's point of view...
Here comes the wide receiver...here comes the ball...wait...wait...wait...he is 20 yards from you...you have your 18mm lens....shutter at 1/500...apeture open.....he is 10 yards from you...the ball is on his fingertips...you hit the switch...flash...
....that is likely not a snapshot.
Please forgive spelling errors...I was getting excited.

| Sometimes its a "put down" for a photo that looks like it was from a photographer without any sense on artistic ablilty. Like taking shots of your family vacation and making everyone look at them. I like snap shots. |
