Okay, this is not really my call, but there is a Challenge suggestion for Breast Cancer Awareness!!

Cancer research is vitally important as Cancer affects so many of us, if not already, it could in the future.

The Challenge thread has been struggling all month to raise donations to go for research. Have you read the thread? Have you donated?

If not, why not? We have thousands of members and just $10 each could build a worthwhile donation to Cancer Research. I had to wait til Payday to make my contribution, my word was my bond and my payment has gone via Paypal.

I have seen members rally round to help pay for users to become members, I paid for someone to get a membership myself earlier this year. We have helped members get new cameras etc.

SO! COME ON! JUST DONATE A SMALL AMOUNT FOR CANCER RESEARCH!

Thanks:)

Because it was under 'challenge suggestions' originally, so I never bothered to keep checking on it when it was bumped. I didn't realise it had turned into a fundraising thread.

As I said, it was not my call, but I couldn't let this die.

I hope this thread will have the desired effect and bring in donations. I hope someone can link this thread with the challenge one. Or, bring the challenge thread into General.

Not much help, am I?? :))

If not why not?

I just donated my time, talents & equipment to photograph 109 donated handmade quilts for a charity auction arranged by my Mother and her friends all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research here in Australia.

The event was held 3 weeks ago and raised over $30,000 AUS dollars!

My plan is that for that amount of effort I receive immunity from Breast Cancer - SMILE!

SO people, get inspired - even if you can't give money - find another way to give!

Great! We will beat this global killer. With everyone giving some time or a donation, we give our scientists and doctors a fighting chance. I am not a religious person, but...

May Your God Bless You and Be With You!

I thought DPC was a caring community!

2 hours and nothing! I recall people here giving for a new camera for a member. I guess I am mistaken thinking people here cared.

It seems unless it is a material item and kudos points can be scored, it doesn't matter.

Fine, but if that is the attitude of members here, then I don't belong here. I don't have much money, but I have given. I have Cancer, as do others here, but that doesn't seem to count.

Am I bitter about the response? You bet! There are plenty here who have a lot to say, but they don't put their money where their mouths are!!

Sleep easy, if you can.

How about a link for those of us who have no idea where to look?

You think this is the only place that we are involved? There are many other places that people participate in, including our communities, that have similar fund raisers, just because we don't do something here for a particular cause doesn't mean we don't contribute to that cause. Just think about that, you don't know what situation other people are in, if there is a suggestion to donate, people should feel comfortable whether they donate or not, without having to see somebody call them out on it.

Do you ever watch Catherine Tate?

You feel called out? As a new member, you are probably unaware of past fund raising. I really don't appreciate negative comments from someone who has limited knowledge of this site and its workings. If you feel unable to donate, that is your own choice, but don't negate the work of others here.

Some of us have causes near and dear to our hearts that we support with our time and our money. No one should be able to say that cancer research is more important than say, MS research. Did you personally donate when Terry Clubjuggle was raising money for his MS walk?

Ah, come on. DPC fund raising threads in the past have worked because they 1) are posted in the right place with the right title, 2) make it easy and obvious how to donate, and where the donations are going to.

To be blunt, this fundraiser evolved from a mish-mash of posts in a 'challenge suggestion' thread, until someone said 'let's do a fundraiser!' The thread continued, someone offered to use their paypal account to collect donations, shoved a 'donate' button in the corner of a webpage. So, in all honesty most DPC-ers probably didn't even realise the thread existed, or didn't view it as it was under challenge suggestions. When they did view it they probably weren't entirely clear what the charity was, where their money was going, or how to donate.

And I really don't appreciate comments that try to lump everybody into one group. Of course people here care, don't tell us we don't. And what does being new to the site have anything to do with it, I know what people are capable of, I have been a part of other communities that do similar things. I didn't say I don't support cancer research, and I didn't say I wasn't willing to contribute, I was just asking you to think about peoples' situations before making such general comments as far as to say that nobody cares.

Original thread was linked. This thread has gone very sour, and is essentially a duplicate bump for the above linked items, so I'm locking this, and if the intent of the thread isn't readily apparent, the title can be changed to reflect that its also a donation thread.
