Just dropped in to let you in on some general information, Queensland Australia has been having some rough weather lately and last night 29th there was a big blow with awesome rain 4inches in 30min. I Wrote Judi who was in the middle of it and asked if her and her family are ok, this is her reply.

Hi Brian

I just replied to Sherpet...so I hope you don't mind..it is easier to copy and paste it. I am tired and sunburnt from cleaning up all day...and I haven't even touched my house mess yet. Anyways...here is the copy and paste...and thanks heaps for checking up on me. Someones gotta keep me in line. BTW...I know that heaps are asking how we fared...so I don't mind if you end up posting this on DPC.

"Yes we copped a mini cyclone. I was huddled on the lounge under the support beam of the house, with 3 children under my arms. It was very frighteningâ€Â¦the roof was getting slammed around. Our house actually faired pretty good. Hail piles a foot high lined the driveway, the gardens looked like snow with hail over everything. The cars are hail markedâ€Â¦mud 6 foot up the fences. The roads were floodedâ€Â¦right up to our gates (4 meters from the road). Trees down everywhereâ€Â¦every second fence smashed to piecesâ€Â¦boats in halfâ€Â¦2 Semi trailers blown over on the road near my house. Cars stopped dead in the roadâ€Â¦no where to go and no vision. Horses stuck in puddles with live wires nearby. Powerlines and trees tangled and hanging everywhere. We finally got power to our house at 2am this morning after Ergon Energy had the chainsaws going outside our window at 1am this morning.

Spent the day helping my partner clean up his house. Two storey house flooded with internal doors snapped offâ€Â¦windows goneâ€Â¦leaves right up to the roofâ€Â¦stain paint tins punctured and sprayed all over the walls and doorsâ€Â¦next doors shed over the colorbond fence and in his pool. Ceilings so wet you can put your finger through itâ€Â¦.floors swelling with water. Crockery flown around and smashed into the poolâ€Â¦.the whole town is devastation. His other property is apparently just as badâ€Â¦we haven’t got there yet but have received reports that his colorbond fence is ripped in places and spread over many yards. People in town still haven’t got power. We have our triple 40th this weekendâ€Â¦and we killed pigs on the weekend and put them in the deep freezeâ€Â¦.they now have to be replaced.

But we are alive."

I forgot to add that the mines also lost power and the men had to do a walk out....trust me...that is only done in an emergency.

BTW...the worst of the storm only lasted 30 minutes.

Cheers

J

I only live 1 1/2 hours from Judi and all we got was the edge of the storm. We have a bit of rain and wind out of it but we could tell it was a 'doozy'. Glad to hear you are OK. Hope there are not more coming over the next few days.

Wow Judi and those nearby took quite a hit with the storm. First, it is good to hear that everyone is alive and going to get thru the event and clean up all right. I have been thru a few hurricanes, living in Florida all my life, and know what the aftermath of a severe storm is like. We only get the mud as she described at places near seashores where tidal surge can float wooden buildings around, and I have also seen that first hand, and know what a huge stinking mess that leaves behind. I know that it will be very stressful dealing with the clean up, and I am happy to hear that power is back on and that Judi still has her internet connection and computer working.
Thoughts and prayers for you and neighbors Judi, if you see this.

Hey guys....yeah we are alive. There are 3 other DPC'ers here in Emerald. Two were caught in it, in their cars....it was very frightening for them. The third DPC'er has tired herself out trying to clear trees off her yard.

I have spoken to many people and they all say the same thing....the damages done to their property. Shipping crates have been dumped on top of cars...sheds down, businesses lost.

The storm was very selective in its path.

And to make matters worse...we have been told it is turning around and heading back our way. So who knows.

BTW Monique...I have been wondering how you fared. The woman making our birthday cake lives in Tieri...she lost 3 windows in the storm.

Hang in there, guys. I hope that things clear up a bit and that storm keeps going. Be safe.

The news is stating that the storm was equivalent to a Category 3 Cyclone...if that helps! Apparently the winds were 140kmh.

Holy Cow - didn't even know it had happened!

Thinking of you, can't imagine how awful it was having to be brave for your children like that.

And the cleaning up - YUK!

My thoughts are with you all,

Lisa

Gee I'm glad Judi never took me up on my offer to emigrate and treat her in the style to which she has become accustomed; I'd have shat my pants and shamed all of DPC malehood...

Finally found a news story on the Australian cyclone that Judi has been in the middle of...

It's on that sterling Fox News resource there.

Here is another article.

For the record...I did not take one photo during the whole ordeal. The paper did ring me yesterday to see if I had anything for them...but I promptly said no...my concern was my children before photos.

That's disgusting! You should be banned from DPC for 3 months!

Easy Bear - I think she meant to say camera gear, then children, then photos. That's respectable. =D

*running away to check on how my daughter is sleeping*
