Maternity Folio

These are some photos from my first maternity shoot. The couple are friends of mine and they are due very soon now. They asked me the night before if I would do the shoot for them so a lot was thrown together last second. They seem to be very happy with the result thus far (I have sent them a few images of preview).

They have several friends in their pregnancy classes who they think will be interested in getting shots done as well... so before I dive in I was looking for feedback.

Good and bad... lets hear it :) Just please keep things constructive. Any ideas or suggestions that may help would be greatful also.

THANKS! -Jamie

Usually these shots make me want to gouge my eyes out, but this one in particular is really very nice:

Sorry for the delayed response but I did want to add my $0.05 USD (add extra since the value of the dollar has gone down).

Individually the shots are quite nice but as a whole they are somewhat repetitive. There are a lot of "belly" shots, but few that actually show the beauty of pregnancy. The "hand heart" shot is typically a very overplayed shot, but I think you've done a good job with this one.

The angle and striped shirt add visual interest to the shot and I like the lighting.

In several of the shots, your mom-to-be looks very uncomfortable with the poses and it takes away from what would otherwise be a very nice photo.

When I work with maternity clients, I try to give a general direction, but ultimately let the client come up with the pose so that it looks more natural. I also prepare by searching the internet for unique styles and poses as inspiration before each and every shoot so that I can get a variety of poses and shots.

Overall, I think you did a great job for your first shoot (certainly better than my first maternity shoot) and your clients should be very happy with what you've done.

If you do more shots, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. I make it a point to try something very different for at least one shot on every client.
