I'm going to go with a Nikon D200

Seems Amazon is the cheapest and has free supersave shipping

Camera body
sb-600 speedlight
60mm f2.8
second lens- just can't decide at the moment but between the 18-135 and 55-200mm not sure which would be better. Everything I do is outside. Will be buying another lens later on anyways.

but that's about it. Going to Ritz again on Friday to make sure this is what I really want to do. Will be ordering this weekend.

Welcome to Nikon world. It's not the camera, but what you learn to do with it.

You can use 18-135 and get a doubler which adds about 2-fStops.

That depends what distance and type of subjects you will shoot more often. The higher speeds help in not carrying tripods as much. But for HDR, an versatility in creativeness, many times a tripod can do more.

Hmmm, strange choice of lens. If you are going for a prime why not go for a 50mm 1.8 instead of a 60 f2.8.. For a short prime lens 2.8 seems a wee bit slow and I am sure you would regret the decision sooner rather than later.

well I have yet to see something I don't like with the 60mm. I can do portraits and macro with it. I'll be getting the 50mm 1.4 around Christmas.

I need some sort of white angle telephoto equivalent to my Oly's 45-150. I have 2 lenses with my Oly but only use that one. The 14-45 I only use for landscapes so I may get some sort of wideangle telephoto eventually.

I have the 50mm f1.4 and the 60mm micro f2.8. The 60 spends a lot more time on the camera than does the 50. The 60 is a great macro lense as well as a very good portrait lens. It's not so good at landscapes. Neither the 50 1.4 or the 50 1.8 are super sharp stopped all the way down where the 60 is, so the speed difference is somewhat moot.

I don't know about the 50 1.8, but neither the 60 or 50 1.4 are speed demons where is comes to focusing, and both tend to hunt in low light.

thanks Gator, I've had lost of people tell me they use their 60mm and love it and haven't heard many people mention the 50mm except for those that do mostly portrait work. I know the 60mm wouldn't be great for landscapes, but for florals, portraits, ect I think it will do nicely.

what's a decent wide angle telephoto that isn't going to cost more then 400 or so?

Thats a very constrasty statement there. In reality your only going to get a mediocre wide angle lens for less then $400. A good sharp lens is going to cost you more then that, if your going to spend the money do it once and be done with it, dont buy something you regret having and are unhappy with the results with and end up selling only to buy what you wanted in the first place. Having to do my choices all over again, I'd rather do without coverage in one area for a bit longer and buy the right lens then to try and "make do" with something I want sharper, faster, wider, or whatever.

Just remember to take the crop factor in your consideration of lens. Your Oly 45-150 was 35mm equivilent of 90-300, with Nikon your going to be at a 1.5 crop factor. So if you want a lens that covers the same range you are going to need somewhere around a 50-200 lens, which is likely going to be either really expensive or slow and soft at the long end.

thanks MattO. that is very helpful. Well I've had a couple of people say the kit lens isn't too shabby so I may go with that for now- I think it's an 18-135mm.

I'm curious why you are switching at this point?

more options in general then I have with my Olympus.

You really cannot go wrong with the D200. IMO, it is an amazingly built camera (you are going to see a big difference from Olympus) with the 'best' ergonomically control ever made for that type of camera. A no brainer for serious photography. One of the best choice from what it is offered nowadays.
