Excellent Tammer and Quigley

Ok I've done more than 10% of the Distance & Photojournalism challenges.
It's REALLY tough - there are so many that I would never comment on.
But I think the idea is great, so I will continue - SMILE! |

It is harder than you think but I've gotten some nice PMs thanking me for the comments and that makes it all worth wile. Not to mention that I'm getting faster a typing. (two word per min now:-}) |

Agree 100% Sometimes you have to make so few comments to make the 10% but if they were images that you would not normally comment on it can be very difficult. That's a good thing I think it makes you look at an image and find something to comment on.
I just hope I'm not to hard I tend to be quite blunt even when its not intended that way.

Beginning of the end
You have rated 53 of 138 images (38%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 21 images (15%) in this challenge.
Disappointed. Almost half of the entries missed the concept. The other half are sunsets and autumn leaves. Very few jewels here. |

Node - I hear you on the bluntness - sometimes I just want to SCREAM...
'do you REALLY think this is an image suitable for a challenge!'
I really wonder what people's intent is.
I certainly understand that everyone has differing equipment, skill sets etc, but SURELY they all have eyes - GRIN!
Ok - I'll return now to the scheduled program and I've just done 18% of the From the Ground up!
I've only got one email so far, and it was from someone I know - lucky he's still talking to me - GRIN! |

I've started to wince at the bluntness of my thoughts before comments.. I've had to clamp down more then once so I want to apologize if I offend anyone.. *runs away screaming* |

Well personally I feel that I learn a hell of a lot more from a critical comment than a sugar coated comment and I appreciate peoples honesty.
That does not mean that the comment needs to be rude or insulting and I use IMHO=In my humble opinion lots.

I've always been a suger coater so in contrast my comments, ever since I've started going through challenges for the sake of commenting, have become really, really abrubt and blunt.. the shift is almost creepy... it's for the first time that I've had to worry about other people's feelings.. it'll be interesting to see how many people will mark my honesty as helpful :D |

So I guess this is why this 'comment on the 1st 10% IS a good idea'.
I KNOW I would have run away rather than comment on a good half of the images in my 1st 10%.
Glad to hear that others feel similarly - and that they too have found their tone to be 'less' sugar coated - Me too - SMILE! |

Hey - great to see this going so well!! I managed to vote on three challenges today (yes, I was goofing off all day and moving from computer to computer when the occupants of said machines wandered off). I didn't get the 10% in on Halloween, but I did on two others:
Photojournalism:
You have rated 79 of 80 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 37 images (46%) in this challenge.
Something New:
You have rated 88 of 90 images (98%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 11 images (12%) in this challenge.
I've just started in on Free Study. Not sure I'll have time to finish it this month, but I'll give it a go!
And for the sugar coated versus not - I've been the recipient of a few "not" and that's just fine with me. A lot of my entries lately have been not what I'd consider either DPC friendly or noteworthy in a photographic sense. I still like to enter anyway. :-) |

Just saw this and have been accidentally participating via the Old and New challenges (New: 48% vote, 33% comment; Old: 29% vote, 17% comment). I went on a commenting binge the past few days so I could get my comments made/comments received ratio over 2, and just started at the beginning of each of those challenges and chugged along. I agree that sometimes figuring out what to say (and/or how to say it) takes awhile. It's worth the effort for me; I always hope it's worth the photog's effort to read it!
Nice idea for a side challenge! |
