Guys,

I have a question, my wife was considering joining DPC as well, but we use the same computer, I was wondering if this would be an issue with challenges or anything?

Thanks

It hasnt been for my wife and I. We actually use two different browsers - she uses IE and I use Firefox - so we don't have to keep logging in and out to get to our own portfolios and home page. You dont have to use different web browsers - it just works out good for us as we both have update button addictions.

But watch out - when your wife starts beating you in challenges it can get hard to live together in the same house.

That was another thing I was worried about, I sleep on the couch enough as it is right now :P I dont want to have to when I beat her in the challenge.

(I dont really sleep on the couch :P)

My wife joined, even paid. Entered once and that was it, sheesh!

She does enjoy getting the winners via email, though. I don't think she even votes any more. :-P

She did enter the "Day in The Life" photography contest with me, though. A local one here.

Flighty woman. I love her.

Your wife is welcome to join, and it's perfectly fine to share a computer. If she does join, we recommend (but do not require) that you let us know via help/contact in order to avoid any potential confusion later.

Also, it is important that you each vote objectively on each entry you vote on. Many couples choose not to vote on each others' entries at all, to avoid the chance of bias creeping in, or of having to sleep on the couch for voting a 4!

We haven't figured out a good solution to fighting over the update button ;-)

Thanks Terry,

I use the computer at work for most of my update addiction, so that probably wouldnt be a problem at my house.

Thanks for the suggestions.

That is good info to know, As I have been trying to talk my wife into joining also. She says she doesn't have enough time to make it worth while. But I am going to keep trying.

You don't have to use different browsers. My wife and I both use the same browser and everything works out great. We both vote from the same computer, same browser, but of course at different times, and we have never had an issue.

Do I really need to report to the SC that we use the same computer? Why would that matter, everything is based on who is logged in, not what IP I'm using, right?

It's not required, just recommended. We do have some internal reports that do make use of IP addresses.

My daughter ( pipsqueak) and I are both members, use the same computer but have separate e-mail addresses. Hasn't been a problem. I enter more challenges than she does. Only because it is my camera and I am better at squeezing in the time and can stay up late.

Up to a point, yes, but if there is ever any suspicion of collusion (particularly involving multiple accounts) the IP used will be a factor. If, for example, your wife joins but never enters or chats in forums, just votes on challenges, then there might be issues regarding whether "she" is a ghost account you set up to vote twice. That's just one scenario. Good to let SC know up-front what the situation is.

My wife and I are members and have been for a long time but I'm the only active member now. At first we shared the same camera and computer, that also ment shareing the same sites as we shot for challenges.

There were no big problems except that I was active in the forums and she was not and sometimes that ment I would get on the computer after her and start trolling the forums and post here and there only to notice later that I had not logged out my wife and logged myself in :)

In the end I went DSLR and she went P&S.

My daughter and I are both members, but she *mostly* uses her own computer, but not always.

I guess that means that I should mention that to SC, huh?

since she links to your profile and calls you daddy, we could probably figure it out. :)

That said, you don't have to tell us. If we see something suspicious, we will ask, you can answer. BUT, if you tell us beforehand, we don't have to ask. :)

Is Firfox a guy thing, a geek thing, or what.
I'm Firfoxing too but I like the new Safari in Leopard.

If they are checking things based on IP, then same computer isn't even really the question, but same internet connection is really what they are looking at. Since the computer's specific address is only registered with the router, what the outside world sees is your modem's IP. So if you are on the same internet connection, to everybody outside your network you look like the same.

Anyway, really the only issue you will see, as mentioned before, is if you forget to log out of your wife's account before doing things, like posting to forums, submitting photos(hope that doesn't happen too often), etc. Then you will just do everything as her, instead of yourself, but other than that you won't see anything weird. Voting, commenting, posting to forums, the usually stuff is all dependent on the user that is logged in, so what computer you are on doesn't really matter.
