Thank you very much....
I am amazed that not only have I received my first ribbon, but so many favorites for my image called TiMBeR, ans also some favorite photographers.

Thanks heaps..... as I am still on cloud nine.....

Okay all, I took a little, teenie tiny flight across the ocean to my home country (which is weird; it's not where I live or have lived for 4 and a half years now -- which is in the UK -- but somehow when I come here -- to the US -- I'm still coming home; anyway . . . ); just a tiny, short flight. And I get into my hotel and there is more than a page of posts in this thread! Geez, so much to catch up on . . .

First, scores update:

I've been accused of going for the brown here (which I was not; I don't "do" that; though I knew this wouldn't do well, I actually like it).

When I checked quickly this morning before leaving for my plane, this was at 5.4 (I think), so this is a rather pleasant surprise. I like this one, too :)

Shez, congrats on a wonderful picture and a ribbon; great stuff there!

Jeanne, awesome work; it's nice to be able to have a little "real world" effect once in awhile. I got in touch with a local conservation group and offered to do some shots when they're out in the field, and of their conservation areas that they could use for their Web page, or, if they liked enough, that they could sell to their members to raise funds. They seemed really excited, we exchanged some messages, and then . . . nothing :( Guess I'll go look for another non-profit that I can make a similar offer to!

Don, here's the quote from your post:

Here's what I thought you said:

Kelli and Jeb, hold onto the good feelings of those scores!

And no, Don, I don't think your lens will leave you; she might want you to turn off scores during challenges, but I don't think she will leave you. Maybe you should tell her a scarey story, about how if she runs away, there are all these Canon cameras waiting by the bus station just to pick up such an innocent, unsuspecting lens like her . . .

Ernie, I will leave some thoughts for Courtney when I'm done here . . .

Jeb, I don't want to put words in Mary's ( quiet_observation) mouth, but I don't think a "lighting workshop" refers to a workshop with lights in it, but instead refers to a workshop that teaches you about using lighting (especially in portraiture, where it is "way" important, as all the cool kids say). And I'm not sure I've said it yet, but yes, you have the potential. Now; get to it (but do listen to the good people here about pricing up front)!

Hi Deb :)

Hi Christian, awesome stuff on your site (not that that's a surprise or anything, but still).

David, how goes the new house?

Phew, hope I didn't miss anybody; that was a lot of effort for a guy for whose body it's 1:10am but where he is it's 8:10 pm. I have a feeling the next few days are going to be a bumpy ride . . .

Best,

Rob

I'd like to remind the "Challenge Winners" about the prize of commenting on the rest of the images in that challenge. levyj413, I'm looking at you..

I think beating my old score in "Something Old" shouldn't be too lofty of a goal, but I have been stuck in the bottom 5% a lot lately.

Just wanted to say that I hope none of our Team Suck members have been adversely affected by the devastating wildfires raging in Southern California. I hope they are all safe and sound.

Hey, I haven't missed yet with that solemn responsibility. Don't I get the full week? :P

I'd like to note that for the first time ever, I have three 6 scores going. :) Of course, it's 6.0000 in two of 'em and 6.0500 in the other!

Okay.....I would just like to duly remind everyone that *this* Mediocre Champion got a ribbon in Procrastination.

I have *finally* finished commenting on the Group Portrait entries.....I put it off as long as I could for obvious reasons.

Here goes...Jeffrey, though I like the interesting angle and the shot is technically correct, I got hung up on *MY* perception of meeting the challenge as a portrait. To me that means, quickly posed, or set up in a studio, fully recognizing that a picture is being taken for posterity.

skewsme you got the same reaction from me relative to the DNMC thoughts on Portrait, but you're gonna want to fwap me 'cause I didn't get the 3-D thing......what's worse is that I'm old enough to remember those books. Please don't be too PO'd at me.....I'm just trying to be honest.

Lea.....LOVED your entry! What a FUN shot!

Christian.....I chuckled, don't know if it was tongue-in-cheek or not, but that *IS* the original group portrait to me!

Deb....I knew that "The Cinnabon Guys" was yours right away. I knew that this was you preserving this for all time and this shot is so typical of the Deb that I've come to know. You get sent to a war zone where God only knows what'll happen to you, and all you can think about is that you should give credit to the guys that put a smile on your face in the morning with a cup of coffee. I got a lump in my throat when I saw this.....you are such a kind and generous soul.

Last, but not least, LaMas.....Dude, you have my UTMOST respect for being a stand-up guy and taking your medicine like a grown-up.....well, kind of a grown-up! LOL!!!

And I am completely in awe of someone who can place 85th out of 84 entries......you da MAN!!!! LOL!!!

Sorry this took so long, folks!

this week's OOBIE
10/26/2007 11:29:30 PM · #1312
Just stopping in to say hi to everyone. I haven't had a decent Internet connection since I got home from Michigan. What can go wrong while everything is turned off and the house is empty??? I have someone coming tomorrow, who I'm hoping will be able to fix the problem.

I've been able to enter a couple of challenges, but that involves taking the files to a public computer to connect to the Internet. When I remember Melethia's stories, I feel like a total wimp complaining about Internet troubles. Sorry.

I've been worrying about all the DPC members who live in San Diego. There are a lot.

Jeb, hope that PB holds for you. You're up there in ribbon territory.

Rob H. and Christian, hope your 6+ scores hold too.

Hope to be able to join the team fun in the comfort of my home tomorrow. See ya.

I think Jeffrey already has a collection of Yappies... :-)

By the way, is there a OOBIE sucker that's any different than a Yappie sucker?

Internet access is sporadic and limited time-wise, so I may be scarce. Meanwhile, there's new stuff in the October in Beige folder showing my new digs. Enjoy! (And thanks for the OOBIE!!)

Well, it's down to third of my Top 5 on my profile page, which is nothing to sneeze at, but I was so thrilled when it was above 7 for almost a full day.

Oh, I'm sorry Deb - I didn't include it in my email to you because I thought you already had the gif. My bad - I'll send one along to you right now.

I have my Internet connection back, yeah.

And I have an entry in Free Study that I LOVE!!! Usually that is a bad sign, but maybe this time will be different. Isn't hope wonderful?! :D

I'm in for Something Old, and I might have an image I like for the Free Study too.
10/28/2007 06:30:14 PM · #1323
I just scraped under the deadline for - erm - the beginning of the end. I've entered a shot that is dark, unfocused and lacking in an obvious central theme or object. People might feel that they don't know what they're supposed to be concentrating on (and they'll blame me and my picture, too, if past experience is anything to go by). Do you think I'll crack 7 this time?

7 points or 7% ? I'm having a hard time with both.
