I will be signing up with smugmug pro (pro so I can have my own url) and header logo. This is the header logo I have came up with so far. I would appreciate any comments or critiques.

Thanks in advance for your time.

It actually looks like 'Wudden' with the 'h' tied in with the 'W'. I like the font and flow of it.

I thought it was "Wuddon" :p

I agree. I seen that when I was making the logo but hoped the lens flare dot above the "i" would solve the problem. I believe I need to go back to the drawing board and try to separate the "h" and "i" so it don't look like a "u".

How does the remainder of the logo look? if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks,

what's with the grey circle in the right half of the image? It looks like a flaw.

Remember - clean is better for these types of logos

Dear Mr. Wuddon,

Separate the h from the W and maybe make the fonts in "hiddon and "hotography match more closely in size and aspect - they seem different to me. Could be wrong though.

Otherwise I think it is very good and will serve you well.

Best.

edit - 'hototography' - even though that sounds kind cool to say

That is part of the lens flare reflection. I'm going to take the lens flare above the "i" out as I try to improve the logo, that will remove the area your speaking of.

Your correct. They are slightly different in size and font. Thanks for the critique, I will try making them the same.

I've got a few comments.

As a professional designer, I'm not too keen on your logo for a few reasons. It's a great attempt at doing it yourself but for your photo business, which is all about imagry and perception, you should spend the money or take the time to get it done right. If this is going to be what potential clients see and their first impressions with your business, you want it done right and to look professional.

Same goes with your photography. You wouldn't hand someone who's never done photography your camera to shoot your once in a lifetime wedding photos.

I'm not knocking what you are doing, not at all. But a logo is an integral part of marketing ones self.

1. Designing on a black background as you have, your logo is always going to have to be on a box like that and you can't really have it any other way.

2. Lens flares used in ANY design just screams amateur. It's a done cliche.

3. Wouldn't be good used as a watermark. Very distracting.

4. It reads as Photography Wuddon. Not Whiddon Photography

Here is something that I've done in 5 minutes time. It's clean, classy and it has a visual element that can be used with or without the "logo - box" at top. The font can be used alone, or the box logo can be used alone. Together, it creates your branding.

1 colour design. This will be the most cost efficent way if you ever need it printed professionally. Yours, with the lensflare is 4 colour, or "full colour" which can be quite costly if used on future marketing materials if cost is something that needs to be considered.

I don't normally hand out freebies like this, but you are more than welcome to this logo if it suits your needs. Send me an email to jsvander at telus . net and I can give you the vector files if you would like.

Holy crap, how generous, and what a beautiful and professional logo!

Scott,

Vander has pointed you in an excellent direction and very coherently stated the reasons why that approach is preferable to your original. I spent a lot of time designing logos and such when I ran the graphic design dept of a conventional print shop, and I agree with all he has said.

I'd take him up on his generous offer.

Nicely done, Vander! Though if I may, I feel it looks a little more balanced and harmonious with a tighter crop on the lettering, text breaking the box on both sides:

BTW, Scott's the reason DPL exists, so it's appreciated. =)

Yeah, of course, no worries Smurfguy!

I think they both look more than suitable. Your version and the previous one. I can see your point, absolutely.

If Scott would like it your way, I have no problem doing that and sending him that logo for him.

Thanks for the compliments folks! :)
