Hello
Please guide me in buying a wide angle lens for canon 350D
I dont have a very big budget but still looking for a decent wide angle lens.
I happened to come across this lens CANON EF-S 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 II LENS
how is it worth buying |

I don't know that lens, but that isn't wide enough on the 350d. I have the canon EF-S 10-22mm F/3.5-4.5 USM and I just loooove it! If you have the money to buy it, I reccomend it! |

Hmmmmmmmm I completely understand on being ona budget, is there any other wide angle lenses you looked at? Or not?
I got my 400D with the kit lens (I heard people saying that they regreted buying the camera with the kit lens, I now am in that category!) which is the 18-55mm and it's the lens I use less, personally not too keen on it... My best advice would be carry on saving a bit more instead of making a rushed decision! It was the best advice I received and it was worth the wait =)

Oups, is the lens from the kit lens that he was talking about? Well, then I have it and I agree with you, is the one I use less (see next to never). Better save your money and buy something better, you won't regret it. |

That is the kit lens which equates to a 35mm range of 29-88mm and if you're on a very tight budget it will serve you well enough though it is not a very good lens.
If you're willing to spend a bit more on a lens with a similar range I have the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 which I like a great deal - very sharp and with a constant 2.8 aperture. There's also the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 with similar specs. The Tamron 28-75mm is very highly regarded but couldn't exactly be described as 'wide angle' on a cropped sensor like the 350D's. For a slightly greater range there's also the Sigma 17-70mm which also has a 1:2.5 macro function (i.e. not true macro but with a close-ish focusing distance in comparison to the other quoted lenses).
If you're looking for a true wide-angle lens there's always the Sigma 10-20mm which is a terrific lens, as is the canon 10-22mm (though more expensive) but these are both specialist lenses that won't serve you well as walkaround lenses.

If you're looking for real wide lens you have a few choices:
Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6
Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 (full frame compatible)
Tokina 12-24 f/4
Canon EF-s 10-22 f/3.5-4.5
I went for the first one, but some friends have the Tokina and it's a very fine lens, with constant f/4 aperture through the range.
