Some very good ideas, Shez! But I had to laugh - even our socks are beige. Or olive green, or brown - or if you're really daring, white! We really just don't believe in color out here in these desert camps.

Well..... I am a daffy duck or is that a daisy duck, arn't I.
Maybe you have some vegetable dyes, or clorhs dyes, you could use on the white socks.....
Just a thought, as I like to see what you can come up with.....
Hey I got it, what about colored "ZEN" rocks.....

Hasn't your mother ever told you not to play with your food?

Well now is the chance to have a really good play...see what you can come up with. Food comes in many colors.

i was on holiday in Scotland this year and because of all the rain there were loads of rainbows, like one every other day, and because of the clarity of air i have never seen rainbows so well defined and bright, i predict a great one coming from somewhere in scotland.

To attempt to answer the original question... we've pretty much always accepted "coloring within the lines," that is, selectively changing color of existing areas (sky) or objects which exist in the as-shot scene. We used to DQ, under the previous "major elements" language, any shape created using color or tonal adjustments. Under the revised "don't add/move/remove features" language, we don't do that any more, but instead ask whether you've attempted to add an element to the as-shot scene. The shapes created in the shots where someone appears to be painting a B+W photo in color are an effect, for example; they are not pretending to be objects present in the original capture. An added rainbow, however, would fall into this category, and definitely would be disqualified.

Thanks, Kirbic. That's the most coherent explanation of the distinction I've seen.

Now, can we delete the other bazillion posts that are off-topic? *grin*

A few CDs and a light source was all it took for this one, which did reasonably well (22nd of 154) in the recent technology challenge. No fancy processing was needed.

I suspect most people will be conjuring up rainbows of various types rather than finding them in nature.

You know with all the controversy on DQs how the photo posted in this thread escaped it via it's validation is rather mindblowing don't you think? I remember saying to a fellow DPCer when that won a ribbon, that it was the 4th place finisher's lucky day.

That's too funny. I said the very same thing to someone the night of rollover.

At this point the safest bet is to take the picture and submit it to SC for post processing.

Per the rules, "Your submission must be: taken and post-processed by you."

What you propose would lead to a DQ. :)

No moisture falling through the atmosphere when the sun is at 23 degrees or less during the challenge time. Oh, well! Hopefully, this challenge will run again during the temperate times in the northern hemisphere. Hope those in the southern hemisphere were able to capture some great light refractions.

(I intentionally skipped the light diffraction photo opportunities. I'm tired of the uneducated dnmc comments and votes.)
