Faidoi's daily suggestion
13 September 2003

Ok. I am not Faidoi and I may not be able to do a suggestion every day.
However, I will do it as long as Faidoi does not come back.

Today let's give a look at this:
Under the rain

My reason for choosing this pic:
I definitely think that has "Blue Ribbon" quality. I do not think it was robbed though.
I have the impression that its beauty is just slightly too complex for the average viewer.
What do you think?

I quite like this shot. It's a little dark on my work monitor, so it's hard to tell if the bushes on the left are lacking detail.. I think the only thing wrong with it, which possibly let it down is the fact it's not straight. A little rotation would help a lot I think.

you are right it is a good photo and it did well. There is one small easy to get rid of distraction in the photo that probably kept the photo from winning. First thing I really noticed was the structure in the right hand corner of the photo, if it had been cropped out it probably would have won.

i love that shot./ the colors and composition are outstanding. even if it didn't win, it's an excellent image and imagesloyola should be proud of it ..

This reminds me of another that is one of the most popular images ever at this site:
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=1912

This one does not hold a candle to that one, but it is a good image. It looks a bit more like a snapshot. It has good color distribution and there is just something appealing about someone walking in the rain.

I agree with the score it got.

This is a wonderful image. Very colorful and pleasing to look at. The only thing that bugs me about this shot is the fact that he is walking to a fence that doestn't open. It makes it look set up in a way.

It tells a good story. Walking barefoot in the summer rain. It makes me smile to think the person used an umbrella to cover his/her head, rolled up his/her pants so they wouldn't get wet, yet was barefoot. I like it but I do wish there was a visibly open gate ahead of him/her and that the bushes on the left were a little less dark.

For me, the fence and buildings detract -- I think I'm "expecting" a walk in the woods from the color and composition. The color, detail, and overall "mood" are very good.

Olympus has a new model out similar to mine in form and features but it's waterproof ... very handy for situations like this!

Well.. the one you mentioned is one of the best ever here, and everybody knows it.

However, let me disagree with your comparison. I do not find many commonalities between the two of them apart from the umbrellas and I think that, maybe, even the authors would agree with that. =)

I agree with who noticed that a slightly rotation would have helped the photo selected in this thread.

That kind of critics, I think, are those effective from which most of us have a lot to learn from.

I love this shot. I left a comment during the challenge, I still feel that same way. I voted this one quite high.

"The only thing that bugs me about this shot is the fact that he is walking to a fence that doestn't open. It makes it look set up in a way." (previous remark made)

Not true, the fence does open, and it is open, if you look just past the person walking directly towards the open gate. You can see the gate is swung open and pointing inwards away from the road. The reason you might have missed it is because the gate doesn't open all the way towards the ground, it's kind of a "half-gate".
