Both cameras are very cool. Screens are big, auto focus is fast, blah blah blah. Here is what others may want to know....

- Live view is very nice. However auto focus in tripod mode (while maintaining live view) is slow. It is really is a tripod mode and I would not use it hand held. This maybe good to hand camera to someone to take a photo of you since people are used to P&S.

- Yes you can set D3 in FX mode and use DX lens. Nikon 12-24 was very usable at ~16-24. 12-aprox16mm has black corners and at 12mm there is dark area all around the frame. Maybe if you trim filter threads...

- 51 points auto focus kicks ass!

Unfortunately Nikon rep did not allow me to put my memory card in the camera so I don't have any sample images.

I am drooling in waiting for this camera to come out. I am planning on getting my grubby little hands on the 300 next month. I will be adding some serious glass at that point too. I can't wait!!

I wish you would have been able to get some sample images but I understand the reps point of view.

I can't help wondering why you don't get the serious glass now, so that you can play with it before you get the new camera. I can never wait for anything, personally.

I'm waiting to see how the D300 does high ISO.

Finances. I am waiting for some incoming cashflow to do a huge splurge next month.

Something interest from the DPReview article:

The D3 becomes the first digital SLR to feature dual Compact Flash card slots. Both support Compact Flash Type I or II as well as FAT32 (cards over 2 GB) and UDMA (high throughput). The second slot can be set up to either (a) overflow (once card 1 is full go on to card 2), (b) backup (everything written to card 1 is also written to card 2) or (c) RAW to card 1 and JPEG to card 2.

You should have held him in a headlock until he gave you the exact release date :)

I can't wait to drop some coin on the D300. That should be a good upgrade from my D70s. I am really wanting some better noise performance at the higher ISO's.

I plan to own a D3 by the end of the year no later than Feb. I am starting to get excited about this camera.

I played with a few at the photo show last weekend.

Low, low, noise levels at 3200..6400 and higher. That was one of the most impressive things. Better than the D200 at ISO 500-800.

I don't shoot sports but hearing 9fps was crazy.
