Hi.

I'm looking for a printer that will give me great quality prints in colour and B&W. I intend using it for small business purposes.

I guess the Epson Pro units are good, but every Epson domestic printer I have had died young, so I'm would need persuading. Budget would be up to about £2,500.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Epson has been the dominant force is pro inkjet printers but both HP and Canon have come out with some fantastic printers lately. I've had problems with Epson printers being short lived and clogging frequently, so I went with Canon on my most recent printer purchase. I picked up a Canon Pro9000 for about $450 and have been very pleased. I'm not a big fan of the canon papers, but the Ilford Classic Pearl has produced fantastic results. The Pro9500 might be better for B&W, but I figured I could make do with the 9000 given that most of my B&W are tinted a little warm anyway.

How big do you need the prints to be?

24" would be about right.

Wow... I should have asked about the width. Once again, Epson has excellent offerings that are proven performers. I still would recommend a serious look at the Canon pro printers given my results with their smaller pro offerings.

I picked up the Epson 3800 Pro, slightly used, for about $1200. It's been a great investment for me. I do all of my own enlargements from 16x24 on down (larger, I still need to send out as the carriage on this printer is 17").

If you do any 4x6s, I'd call it slow. There are much faster printers out there. But the quality is top notch regardless of size.

For me, it was the first "affordable" printer that allowed me to print the size of prints I wanted to be handling. I'd like to do 20x30s ... but my sales of those are only sporadic right now, so I'm happy with what I've got.

Have you heard about the Kodak All-in-One Inkjet Printers? The 5500 has scanning, copying, printing and faxing. And the ink is inexpensive! $9.99 for black ink and $14.99 for color ink. I work at Kodak and I print a lot for scrapbooks and crafts, so I appreciate the value. Also the prints are great and they come out dry and will last a lifetime. Thanks for all the help.
I just ordered the Epson 3800.

This review sold it to me.
