This is one of my first shots with the 50mm 1.8D, I love the blur it gives, love the sharpness.. its just hard to catch that right in the middle for an infocus image. Like in this image, I like it, but his nose and some of his hair is out of focus.

Help/Comments about using this lens for portraits would be helpful

Help/Comments about reversing this lens for macro would be helpful, have a reverse ring on its way now.

You're gonna need to close the lens down just a bit and/or move away from the subject some. The problem is that your Depth of Field is just a tad too shallow.

left a comment. Remember that there are going to be lots of opinions, some may conflict, and it's all in who your target audience is.

Try this as a reference.

Choose your camera, lens (mm), distance from subject.

i think the balance of light and dark are a little off. the hair and shirt kind of outline the face and turn it into a white blob in the middle of the picture. i would try spreading the dark and light tones out a little more evenly. I like the sharpness though, and the facial expression is really good. i would try stepping back, if the subject didn't have such dark hair, you might have been able to get away with it.

wow good tool. At 50mm 1.8f and 1metre the DOF is only 3 cm. So you would want it to be spot on

so instead of like 3.5, a 4 or 5?

I need a photographer2moron dictionary for terms like, stop down and shallow lol
